Help Needed: Netflix and Amazon Prime via HDMI to Projector

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Appreciate any help or tips you might have...

Trying to view a downloaded movie from Netflix app on my iPhone (or Amazon Prime - both have the same problem apparently) on a projector via HDMI cable. Looks like those services somehow block the ability to project via HDMI. Any ideas on how to make that work?

Can't even make it work when connecting phone via HDMI to a TV.

Again, thanks in advance for any help!

Assume it's an HDCP issue. You need to buy a cheap HDMI splitter that strips HDCP from the signal and connect that between phone and projector. That is my best guess anyhow, I am not 100% certain.

OP, when you hook up your phone to the projector, do you get any output? Does it work when you're on your home screen and just go blank when you open Netflix or Amazon Prime Video?

If the latter, you're most likely not going to be able to do what you're asking due to HDCP, a sort of DRM that protects licensed/copyrighted work from being used in exactly the manner you describe.

You're going to need a dedicated media player, like a Roku, that can negotiate HDCP btw. the player and your TV. Luckily, they can be had for cheap at any big box store.

I've had good results with this one from Amazon.

However, OP might also consider picking up a Roku stick or similar small portable streaming device.

That's exactly what's happening. I can play a video I shot with the camera on my iphone straight to the projector through the HDMI cable, but it won't play Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc. agreed that it's the coding issue, but my splitter apparently isn't one of the ones that strips out the code.

I have a Roku I can use, but my issue is also that I'm trying to use this in an RV while I'm driving down the road (in other words, without WiFi). I thought for sure there would be a way to do that. Can the Roku solution work even without WiFi?

(thanks for explaining things in a way a Luddite can understand them!)
