Bought my son the Switch bundle with Mario Kart on Black Friday for $300. I didn't realize until after I bought it that it's actually the old model. Would it be worth it to take it back and get the newer model for $300 without the game and buy it separately?

From what I've seen the battery life is basically doubled and they screen is a little brighter on the new model.

It's like an hour and a half difference in battery life in real world conditions on Zelda.

TBH, it's not much of a big deal to get the newer Switch. Battery life depends on what you're playing. If you're playing Zelda, then the battery for the old Switch is gonna last around 4 hours. If you're playing a 2D game like Super Mario Bros, the battery is gonna last like 8 hours. Battery life is also a good limit for play time. It's good to take breaks. The great thing about the Switch is playing it on the TV because the battery isn't being used, so it lasts longer than a phone.

I just bought the old switch bundle for my son knowing it was the old model with a weaker battery. But my wife and I both agreed he didn't need to be playing that long anyway and if it dies, then it's time to quit anyway. Honestly, the battery life on the old model is probably longer than I want him staring at a screen anyway. Just a thought.

How much battery usage are you looking at? If this is mostly going to sit in the dock, having the game is probably better. You can also get a decent sized power bank for $30-$50 if the remote play is going to be a big deal.

The joycon issues are the same, and the screen is plenty bright. The big thing is the battery, and if it's mostly going to be docked, it's probably not a big problem.

related question... whats the best place to sell a nintendo switch? I have had mine for about 6 months, used it maybe 10 times... just not my thing..

i dunno what these things are worth, i think i have 2 or 3 games (non downloaded games) and a little case for the device... as its an electronic device is 50% the original price a good starting price point?

I would have to wait till i get home to take a good inventory about what games i have.

I'd like to think it will mostly be in the dock which would negate the battery issue. I imagine with my son though it will be 50/50 or 60/40 in favor of the dock. Unless we go on a trip then it will be in handheld the entire time. But our back seats give him the ability to charge anything so shouldn't be a deal breaker.

I am going to end up returning the Mario Kart Switch bundle back to Best Buy. I'd rather have the new processor and longer battery life, because let's face it, Dad's gonna play too.

Walmart just released a new Switch bundle yesterday that comes with the new Switch, Mario red joy cons, a Mario carrying case, and a $20 Nintendo e-shop credit. I also got the 3 year protection plan for $34. The Best Buy 2 year plan was $50.
