Has ads. I DVRd the Cowboys preseason game in my Hulu profile because I couldn't find it live but it has ads. The DVR playback doesn't allow me to fast forward so I have to sit through ads. When I called to ask why I was told not everything is ad free and if I want to fast forward I have to sign up for an additional $10 a month app.

This seems like complete bullcrap and false advertising to me. Anyone have a suggestion for a different subscription service that can give me all the live programming and sports?

I pay $6 extra a month for no Ads, that is BS. WTF making people watch ads on DVRd shows? Looks like I am going to YouTube TV next month since they allow you to fast forward through ads .

Depending on the show you have DVR'd, or long long it's been in your DVR, you may have to watch the "OnDemand" version with ads versus what you recorded, even with YouTube TV or PS Vue.

The no ads is not for DVR programs, it's for shows on Hulu that you get with normal Hulu.

This. If it's been a week or so since you've DVR'd it, you're going to get ads on PS Vue as well.

this is my experience. If you pick the on demand version of the recorded show you can't skip ads (on Vue)

Educate yourself a little bit about what you're actually paying for before throwing a fit..

I'm seeing ads even with the Hulu (No Ads) plan

Whatever dude. If you sell a service called Live TV No Ads a consumer is going to expect no Ads. Don't give me the fine print bullcrap.

It's not called Hulu Live TV No Ads. It's "Hulu (No Ads) + Live TV". Two separate services. It's not hidden in the fine print, it's right there in the name...

I'm the dumbass? I get how some shows may have ads if they come from another network but to make you pay extra to fast forward a DVRd show is stupid.

Only a moran would accept that.

Question...is it the DVR'd show on the network you recorded it (with local dealership and "next on channel xx news at 10" commercials) or are the "DVR'd" shows coming from that network's On Demand library? Big difference. Just an example...my wife watches Gray's Anatomy. If she watches it within a week of it airing, she get's KTRK's airing of it, complete with channel graphic, etc. If she waits a while, it will pull from ABC's On Demand, thus she'll have commercials she can't FF through. That's with PS Vue.

How would you expect to get Live TV without ads? Just have a blank screen while the rest of the world sees ads?

When you DVR something, I expect to be able to skip the ads like with a normal DVR. A DVR from a cable tv provider doesn't make you watch ads if you record something and watch it back. Even on regular hulu on demand content you sometimes have to watch ads with the "No Ads" plan, which is bull*****

That's why I've dropped live tv and I only have Hulu because it came free with Spotify. I'll pick up youtube tv for football season.

This is exactly my point, if I am watching a recorded program I should be able to fast forward through commercials during playback. If you are going to charge me $10 to fast forward why did I cut the chord? If you keep adding up all of the fees I am not saving any money.

I signed up for YouTube TV which has a better DVR that will fast forward for the $50 a month sub.

I can understand thinking the value is not there once you add all the options you may want but it's clearly not false advertising. All of the options, including the enhanced DVR, are listed on the same page when selecting your subscription plan.

I personally like Hulu with Live TV better then YoutubeTV but like the OP has figured out...... If you want the expanded DVR that lets you Fast Forward you have to pay extra for it. It's actually more expensive then YoutubeTV with the expanded DVR.

Last football season we had Hulu w TV/Expanded DVR and it worked flawlessly. The decision was mainly because we had Amazon FireTVs throughout the house and I didn't want to buy three Rokus just for Youtube.

This year, however, we are going with YoutubeTV and my wife has Hulu with Ads with her spotify account.

We have YouTube TV as well. Our experience is that you can indeed fast forward through ads/commercials, but only when the recorded program isn't *too* popular. If the recorded program is very popular, then your and everyone else's cloud-recorded program is replaced with a single cloud-recorded program which will have ads that you cannot forward through.

I don't think it has to do with popularity... CBS, CBS Sports Network, and The CW will force you into Video On Demand ("VOD") over recorded DVR if one is available. All other channels will give you the option to choose the VOD or DVR version on your DVR. You just have to click on the drop-down arrow that allows you to choose the version. I always do the VOD version since my computer skips the ads completely and faster than fast forward since I'm on a computer with AdBlocker on my TV.

Hmmm, interesting. I hadn't narrowed it down to your observations; I'll have to check it out.

I certainly haven't noticed a choice between VOD/DVR.

You are talking about YouTubeTV, right?

Yes, YouTubeTV.

This is on a Chrome browser in dark mode, but once you click the downward arrow you get a choice that looks like this...

Ok, interesting. I usually use the app on a Roku, which I *think* doesn't have that option. Thx for the info; I'll double-check.

It is stupid. One of the many reasons I dropped them. They intentionally mislead, imo. Some of the DVRed shows would not allow fast forwarding, and some would, depending on who owns the content.

They know damn well what people expect from using DVRs with Dish and Direct. They should never use the term "no ad". They should use the term "maybe some ads, it depends".

It does. It's just not obvious. We have a Roku TV (TCL) and a Roku box that my wife uses for YouTube TV.

Tie your hulu (live TV) login to the Watch ESPN app. No ads. You can fast forward and get the nice, zen black "Your event is in a commercial break" screen.
