Just got an iPad Pro and was wondering what apps you guys use? I also got the new Apple Pencil 2 and was looking at some cool uses for it. I've found it very nice being able to use it for work related documents but was also looking for recommendations for not only work related stuff but fun stuff as well.

Procreate is the choice for digital painting, and If you want to do some fun frame by frame animation check out Rough Animator.

Duet is good for using your Ipad as a second screen.

FileApp will allow you to manage .zip files.

PDF Expert 6 is good for manipulating pdf docs.

Signed up for the beta program on Ipad Pro and am using the latest beta of iOS 12. Seems like speed and responsiveness have improved with whatever the beta version is doing different. Looking forward to getting my hands on the beta version of iPadOS.

I've looked at Notability ... however, what is the biggest feature in Notability that separates it from the native Notes app?

I can't import a powerpoint deck into apple notes, mark it up, and send out like I can in notability.

I can't answer your question, however, I strongly recommend you not depend on Notes. I accidentally deleted something from Notes once and as soon as it automatically saved (instantly) and backed up, that something was GONE. It was a good thing that I had another device with a dead battery that hadn't updated yet.

Whatever app you use, either make sure there is a backup and restore function or take additional steps to protect what you have. I'm not sure these apps are really designed to do that so it may be tough.

For those of you using your iPad to take notes, do you feel like it can suitably replace a paper notepad?

I'm an engineer, and I deal with multiple issues every day from multiple customers. Some take 20 minutes, some take 20 days, and there are times when the paper stacks get a little out of control. My organization scheme is...lacking. I've tried using OneNote on my laptop, but it just doesn't work when I'm trying to catalog thoughts, part numbers, sketches, and equations (which I normally do on one sheet of paper). If it was just conference calls and meetings I could probably do it, but calculating stuff...not so much. So I'm considering one of the new iPads (not necessarily Pro, though I might want the pressure sensitivity of the Pencil 2), but I'm just curious if it will actually work the way I think it might in my head or not.

Yes, With the iPad and Pencil its completely doable now. It takes some getting use to.

At the end of the day you got to decide to make a clean break with paper and digitize any paper that you come across immediately and stick to digital.

I got to a point where I tossed all pens, pads, notebooks, highlighters etc that I used for notes and forced myself to use the iPad.

There is a learning curve though. You got to develop some personal convention for naming, tagging and storing, what apps to use ... etc and stick with it.

Do you think the Pencil 2 is enough of an improvement over the Pencil 1 to make a significant difference? I'm kicking around getting one of the older iPads that support the 1 to see if this is something I can make stick.

Depends what you're doing, the really handy part about it is that the 2 attaches to the side of the iPad so you won't lose it.

For general note taking, assuming you aren't an artist, you probably won't notice a big difference.

I have the Pencil 1 and it works great, no complaints.

Its great as is, but if you are going in on a new device would get the most recent version.

I will say that there is a learning curve to get use to all of the capabilities of the Ipad pro.

Even after using Apple devices for coming up on ten years, I'm still finding usability features that I didn't know about. The device is self-explanatory, for basic use, but there is more to it under the surface.

One thing that is helpful is to go on the iBooks app and download the free users manual for the latest version of the iOS and flip through and see if there are features you have never seen before or you don't fully understand.

There is a new version of the OS coming out in a few months that was designed specifically for the Ipad. Name of it is iPadOS.

In my view the Ipad pro and Pencil is a legit laptop/desktop replacement as is (for me). However, from what I'm reading this new version of the OS will push tablet computing over the hump.

Like I said, I've been trying to convert to tablet only for about 8-years and only now feel that the tech has caught up to make it a workable solution.

75% of the notes I took at A&M was on Notability with an iPad 2 and stylus. It was great because my notes went straight to the cloud. If someone needed notes, I pulled out my iPhone 5 and shared.
Wish I had the pro back then!

Yea, iPadOS is the beginning of the iPad truly replacing the everyday computer. I ditched iPad for Surface years ago. Microsoft failed at their app store and tablet interfaces. Now, I'm looking to switch back this winter as long as Apple fixes bendgate with better structural design and material in the next model.

Looks like they've opened up the beta version of iPad OS to the general public.

Anybody used it so far?

Was tempted to download but am holding off since my iPad is my one and only device.
