Does anyone have a settings configuration for Apple products that makes typing more efficient?

At the moment, typing has become unbearable due to overreaching features like predictive, text, auto capitalization and punctuation and apparently a bunch of other 'features' that Apple has slowly added to its software over the years.

I don't remember having this much trouble with the early iPhones and iPad. It seems like a recent issue. Something has changed over the years but I don't know what it is exactly.

Use an iPad Pro mostly, but the same problem occurs with the iPhone and to a lesser extent Mac OS.

Problem is, that Im not typing any faster or accurately as a result of these auto correct / predictive text features.I find myself simply going back and correcting perceived 'errors' that were autocorrected to something totally ***** up.

Essentially, having to proofread and un-**** changes initiated by the software.

It seems like whatever algorithm that is being used to predict and change text input is simply unbearable.

I may be configured wrong with the 15 different keyboard settings and new features constantly being added / tweaked, removed. Turning all of that **** off will solve the problem but theres got to be a middle ground, no?

Is anyone experiencing a similar issue?

Any suggestions or ideas to correct this inefficiency?

Is there some type of alternate onscreen keyboard that is better than the default config?

Im not looking to shut down all auto-correct features, but just some configuration that tones it back a bit.

Its like a game of minesweeper trying to find some workable configuration. Lately it seems like all of these features interact among themselves and cause chaos when working together.

Iv'e been using Apple products since 1984, so I don't think its just a matter or "you are doing it wrong"

But maybe it is ... who the **** knows?

Settings > keyboard allows you to turn off some/all of the keyboard auto correct stuff.

Also is a text replacement database on that menu that can sometimes end up with some weird stuff in it, you can clear out from there.

I'm assuming you've already been through Settings > General > Keyboard where you can make changes to the following:

  • Available keyboards
  • Text replacement
  • One handed keyboard
  • Auto-capitalization
  • Auto-correction
  • Check spelling
  • Enable caps lock
  • Smart punctuation
  • Character preview
  • "." shortcut
  • Enable dictation
  • Dictation languages
  • Predictive

The middle ground would be the Thanos setting where have are used and half are not. I guess you would turn off those that are causing you to have to verify your typing and leave on those that work for you.

Yeah, thats essentially the issue I'm seeing.

With all of the features on, typing is somewhat unbearable. With all of the features off, its also unbearable.

Im turning them all back on and eliminating one by one.

Not sure why this is suddenly a problem for me, but was curious as to whether others had seen the same thing.

Its not something that really happened overnight. My guess is Apple somehow managed to add so many features that are supposed to improve text input, that they somehow lost sight of usability.

That said, I'm beginning to think that this is an issue of old man yells at cloud, and I'm the old man.
