I need a phone for a short period of time. What's the best option for just emergency phone call and very little data usage? International travel.

I have an old iPhone that can take a sim card, but I assume I'll need a certain type (Sprint) sim card and don't want my personal information still on the phone.

Any suggestions where to start looking?

With your old iPhone, keep in mind that older iPhones may not be international and ensure your iPhone can support GSM or CDMA, depending on where you are going. You could factory reset it to whip it clean.

When traveling internationally, I usually use a burner phone. I bought a few cheap cell phones over the years in airports or overseas and just pop SIM cards in those. Keep in mind if you are wanting to remain anonymous, many countries will require a copy of your passport to purchase a SIM.

Lots of options in Amazon for cheap. I just got one for about $25. Much easier than getting one once you get there as depending on the country may need ID and takes about 30 minutes.

How short of a time? Most networks have a $10 day pass option. It doesn't kick in until you need it. If you leave the phone off and don't need it, no charge. Want to use your phone like you're back home, $10.

Thanks, prefer not to take my phone, and not use ID to purchase SIM card once in country. Seems like that is the norm where I'm heading...requiring ID.

As I posted up above, are you traveling .mil?

Buying a local sim and getting one from HQ aren't options for me.
