But it is now November 2018, and little has been said of Battalion 1944's PS4 and Xbox One versions since. The last developer update on the game's Kickstarter is dated from this January, yet the campaign's comments page is still buzzing with activity - from dozens of console backers now asking for a refund.

"I appreciate every single backer who got behind our Kickstarter, and I want to apologise for two things specifically. Firstly, the lack of communication around the console release - there are many reasons why we've remained tight lipped on the information surrounding Battalion's console release, but it's important for our backers to know that they have not been forgotten, we'll always take care of the people who backed us early on. Then secondly, we set overly ambitious goals for a console release, that was a mistake internally.

"We let our enthusiasm for Battalion 1944 get the better of us and set ourselves unachievable deadlines. This is something we have learned from and have corrected. For Battalion we're just beginning a new chapter with the full release on Steam. In all the chapters going forward our focus is on providing a great classic FPS experience that combines the best parts of old and new shooters, [but] this takes time and we're not willing to compromise on quality and risk releasing a lesser game, especially with the potential Battalion 1944 has."


In other words, at some point in 2020, they'll port it, it'll be crap, and the company will fold.

I did an analytics project on kickstarter. You'd probably be surprised at the distribution of projects across categories and subcategories. It was more about successful campaigns than successful products, but it was still interesting. I had to remove several outliers that had <10 backers, but hundreds of thousands of dollars in pledges (in one case millions).

It's also interesting to see spikes at different pledge amounts, specifically multiples of $25 and $100, when looking at a frequency analysis. You see them for failed campaigns, but not really for successful ones. When you remove campaigns that got more than 2 backers, they go away though.

Eh I basically did this for Camelot unchained to get early access whenever they get something playable out.

I'm still waiting on my coolest cooler I ordered in kick starter in 2014. Best case scenario in about two more years I'll get a cooler or worst case (more likely) a check for $20.

I think SC will come out eventually, it'll just be extremely mediocre. I've watched a few streams recently, and it is just bland and the performance issues are horrific (guy was getting 40 FPS with a titan xp graphics card).

I did too. Played Alpha and now beta. it looks nice but development has been painfully slow. Wasn't it announced in 2013? It's been so long I can't remembee

I actually never played DAOC but I did like WAR a lot so I only learned about unchained like a year ago. I hopped on the server a few months ago but it was so raw I wasn't too interested in messing with it yet.

I played and loved both. Gave up on MMOs until MJ announced this one.

It's taken so long I doubt I'll even play this one when it releases. Just don't have the time anymore

Shenandoah Studio put out three excellent, award winning iOS based war games in a row, all financed mostly through Kickstarter: Battle of the Bulge, Drive on Moscow, and El Alamein. I supported all 3 and did some play testing for DoM and EA. When Shenandoah announced a new war game based on Gettysburg, it seemed like a sure bet. I considered the highest level of support for that one, but fortunately chickened out. Years later, Shenandoah was bought out by Slitherine, and Gettysburg is dead. And to add insult to injury, Slitherine ruined BotB with a 2.0 makeover.

Yikes, CU does not sound like it will ever get off the ground. In the meantime, i've been playing Lost Ark and am greatly looking forward to the NA release (whenever they decide to announce it).
