My xbox One died. Budget is tight right now. I'll likely get the S model over the original or X.

Depends on where you get it and what warranty is included with a refurb.

You may have better luck buying a used one on eBay or something. Used One S models are $199 all over the place.

GameStop is fine in my experience. But if it were me I'd rather buy a good used unit vs a refurbished one.

If you live in a big city I'd look for a used game store and look for a used unit that was traded in. Houston has a ton of them.

Also facebook marketplace tends to have a bunch as well.

It all depends on the warranty. If you have a place that'll slap a 1 year warranty on a refurb item, then I'd go for it.

But if you're going with a 3rd party reseller like GameStop, they'll usually only offer 30 days or something. If it's from Microsoft, I think it's 90 days.

Plus a refurb item has already failed once, so who knows what'll happen next.

Straight up used items are likely going to be cheaper than a refurb unit as well.

I got lucky and bought my One S used for $120 and it worked flawlessly until I traded it in for a One X with their $250 promotion.

Do you have a Kinect? The newer ones require adapters, which are no longer made, to work with the Kinect.

Also, I've picked up multiple Xbox Ones on Cragslist and never had a problem.
