Problem with TV and Uverse

We have a Sony TV that we bought around Super Bowl time. We hooked up our DVR and it was working great. A few months later, I turned on our TV to a red x that said service temporarily unavailable. I restarted my box. When the screen came back on, the picture no longer took the entire screen. We have a 6 inch black border around our entire screen.

I have tried to adjust the screen resolution on both the TV and the DVR box. We also had AT&T send us a new DVR box. None of these things helped. We have watched movies and played games where the screen is normal. Has anyone had this issue before or does anyone know troubleshooting or a solution to this?

Stupid questions...

1) You have the DVR resolution set to 1080i?

2) You subscribe to the HD package?

3) You are having this problem in the HD channel range? (i.e. 1602 ESPNHD vs 602 ESPNSD)

Is this how it is displaying?

1) DVR is set to 1080.
2) we do not subscribe to the HD package so we don't have the issues in those ranges.

We have always had our TV set to fill which always gave, before this issue, a widescreen or a full screen view of whatever show we were watching.

Did I read correctly that you don't have access to HD channels?

On my HDTV (also with uverse), if I tune to a channel that isn't broadcast in HD, I also have the large black panels around the screen. You may be able to fix this with a screen fill/zoom/pan & scan feature on the uverse box or your TV.

What I was thinking... setting on your TV sounds like the issue.

So even though it fills the screen on all other devices (have a Bluray player and a Wii U plugged in as well), it is a tv settings issue? I didn't touch nor did my wife mess with the tv settings before we had this issue. Could a problem with the HDMI chord or port cause this type of issue?

I hope it isn't a big issue with a 4 month old TV...

I don't think anything is broken. Your other devices fill the screen because they have a 1080 or 720 resolution. If you aren't using an HD channel on U-verse it doesn't automatically fill the entire screen.

There's a setting on your Tv or U-verse box that would allow you to stretch it to fill the screen. I'll check my U-verse box to see if it's on there or if you'd need to check your tv settings.
