If anyone here hasn't watched The Expanse, go check it out immediately! For some reason, I put it off, even though I loved the book and was excited for the show. I've been sick this week, so I had some time to devote to TV.

This is one of the greatest sci-fi shows of all time. The production quality is absolutely top-notch, and the story is very faithful to a gripping, well-written novel. Love the acting. Thomas Jane is killing it. Jared Harris (son of the great Richard Harris) is wonderful in a smaller role - as he was on Fringe, if you watched that.

The first five episodes can be streamed from SyFy with your TV provider's login.

And as long as I'm talking TV, I loved the Preacher pilot. You can stream it with no login on the AMC website.

Read the first book. Waiting to watch the show until I've read the 2nd one as a friend said the show basically intermingles the first 2 books.

Loved the book though, so excited to catch up and watch eventually!

I've only seen the first five episodes out of ten so far, but it's all from the first novel so far, and I can't imagine they'll be done with the first novel by episode ten.

I binge watched season 1. Great show. Just sucks its a year long production cycle. And I still miss Fringe. Man was that a good show (Except the last season, quality dropped substantially on the writing).

Great series of books and the TV show so far has been great as well.

There's a thread about it on the Entertainment board.

I like that they try to capture a lot of minor details about space flight, low-G and capsule life.

Definitely a great show! I wish we didn't have to wait until 2017 for Season 2 to start.

Yes. Great show. Books are good as well. Just finished the 5th one. Show is following book one but pulling forward some elements from second book.

Why are only episodes 1-5 available for streaming via SyFy now?

No idea. Super annoying.

I like that there is so much of the world that the show doesn't explain. E.g., why belter's speak a hodge podge language, why Alex is Indian but has a texas drawl, etc.

Really cool to see all those small and large details that they keep true to.

I know Chinese and Korean dudes with Texan drawls, and an ethnically Israeli guy as well - but I agree. It's just funny that the future the show is referring to in that respect is already here.

Is Alex Indian? He looks more Greek or Middle-Eastern to me.

Yup. The backstory in the books is that a group of Indians and a group of Texans settled the same area on Mars initially. So now there's a bunch of indians with thick drawls.

Just watched the first two episodes. I like the concept but not really impressed with the show.

Is this something that is popular with those that enjoyed the books and I should just read those?

I'm only a few episodes into the show, so I can't speak to it very much.

But ABSOLUTELY read the books. The first book is incredible, and the sequels are really good.

Had way too much trouble trying to watch on syfy.com and syfy now, so I bought the season on blu ray. $25ish on Amazon. Plus, I wanted to give them my money in hopes that the show will continue. It seems to be good so far, and good sci fi shows have really been lacking recently.

I hate that they gave Tom Jane such a dewsh haircut.

I watched the first 5 via SyFy app because of this thread. The production values are pretty good, but they keep zero gravity to a minimum. Much more graphic than I expected. For someone who hasn't read the books, I think it stands well on its own as a reality that could exist not too far in the distant future. As for the next five I think I'll watch them off iTunes. Not sure if #10 is there though. Overall solid B+.

I like where they ended season 1.

I wonder if viewers understood that the radiation in the radiation chambers was used to "feed" the protomolecule, and speed up the transformation process? I don't think they explained that too well.

I did. I thought they made it clear that it was feeding off energy, but you're right that they did so subtly.

I just re-read a plot summary of Leviathan Wakes, and I completely forgot how much more still happens in the book from where season 1 left off.

They could easily stretch the remainder of book 1 (plus several plot threads from book 2) to fill all of season 2.

They're doing a great job so far with the series.

I think they'll pull in elements of book two like they already have with Avasarala even being in season one, but I agree that season two could easily consist the major plot items left for book one.
