Suddenlink made the official announcement today that they're going to begin offering gigabit internet. http://www.theeagle.com/news/a_m/starting-today-bryan-college-station-is-first-in-texas-to/article_70190226-2682-11e5-8535-ef5aa8f15745.html

The pricing from their website can be seen here:

So customers can pay a buttload more to have Suddenlink artificially limit their internet speeds?

Sounds like a great deal.

I mean, on the one hand, it's SuddenLink, and they're bound to screw it all up. But Google Fiber was such a big deal when it came to an entire city, and hopefully this is somewhat comparable. Google Fiber is $100+ per month, so while that SuddenLink price point makes me question if it will be worth paying for, it isn't too extreme. Sudden Link makes it sound like it's all ready to go, which confuses me a bit. Laying the infrastructure for gigabit is what makes it so expensive and takes time. I've heard that on-campus some of the required "hubs" are already present, so that may make it a bit easier on Sudden Link. Either way, its got to be more than increasing a data cap.

They have been laying down the infrastructure for a while now. This is something they have been working towards for a couple of years.

Hahaha so they increase the speed but keep the data cap the same, have fun with that. It was already easy to hit their crap with their crap speeds but now it will be even easier because now all 4 roommates can stream HD Netflix, etc, etc. The only way to get around that is to buy the 1GB speed which kind of blows.

I've learned to live without home internet. I don't plan on giving Suddenlink my business anytime soon. I'm not paying $100+ a month (and that's just the first year) for their inferior surface and ridiculous data capping.

<Laugh/Cry> Gig speeds on cable with Suddenlink's outside plant. Sounds like a train wreck.

I hope that's a typo, but why does does "Internet 200" only have a 100 mbps connection?

Also, that speed would allow you to hit your monthly cap of 450GB in ten hours.

In other words, if you used your connection to its potential for 1.38% of the time in a month, you would hit the data cap.

"Internet 200" is just the name of the plan, it's not "Internet 200Mbps"... so yes, their Internet 200 plan is 100Mbps and their Internet 100 plan is 75Mbps. Classic marketing ploy.

Wish I had gigabit in my area. My entire media library would be in the cloud thanks to my 10TB Aggienetwork Google Drive account.

Too bad it would take a couple months to fill with the 550GB data cap.
