I need help finding a receiver for my patio. We currently have 2 in ceiling speakers we will continue to use. We want to add rock speakers behind the pool. I think if the rock speakers and patio ceiling speakers are all on at the same time, then the patio would be too loud. Do I need a multi zone receiver then? Can zone 2 operate at a different volume?

I really am not looking for surround with the set up, just sound amplification so when in the pool we can hear the tv or music without blaring the patio ceiling speakers.

Yes. Yes.

thanks for responding. Would I need a separate volume control switch on the wall to control the zone for the pool speakers only?

Not sure about that. You probably could but for mine I just use the remote control through a window or just go inside and manually do it on the receiver.

yeah, that would be a huge pain as you would have to wire in the volume control and cut back sheetrock. Better the go the manual route.

Remember with most receivers, you can't send out a digital signal over both zones so if you're using HDMI you would have to send an analog signal to your outdoor speakers.
