After using the search function here, it seems like the biggest differences are TV integration (yes for Xbone which has HBOGo, no for Ps4), kinect (don't care), and exclusive games (Destiny for Ps4 and New Halo for Xbone).

I'm torn here guys. I mainly played FIFA and CoD/Halo, HBOGo, Netflix, and Amazon on the Xb360, but the monthly subscription really grinds my gears. Games also looked better (such as Red Dead Redemption) on PS3 compared to the 360.

For those with an opinion, why did you choose your console? For those with both consoles, which are you using more often? This is really killing me because I want a new console, but felt like I blew it last time by picking XB instead of PS.

Thanks, Nerdery.

Destiny is not exclusive to ps4, it has some exclusive content but not the whole game

For Amazon prime or Xbox live? Amazon will cost money no matter what platform you are watching on, and playstation network is no longer free. It costs just as much as Xbox live does.

As is still the case, PS4 can render stuff better and display games in 1080p where the XB1 may be 900p or so. Ps4 has better graphics but it isn't a huge deal (except to brand-loyal fanboys). Depends on how much graphics matter to you.

In order of importance:
Friends
Console exclusives
Features
Controller

I had a 360 last gen and went PS4 because it was cheaper (at the time), friends have it, console exclusives (Last of Us is one of my favorite games ever and I definitely wanted to be able to play the sequel), and Sony inproved a lot upon the controller from the PS3 which I didn't care for. I still think Xbox has the better controller and am incredibly jealous of the halo remakes coming up but I don't regret going with sony's console.

Graphics and framrate are most likely going to be better on the ps4 for most games.

Take a look at the exclusives that are being announced. Anything strike your fancy?

What system do your friends play on (or do you even do the online thing).

I bought a ps4 and I don't regret it one bit. The exclusives, the graphics, and Sony having learned their lesson from last generation are doing a great job.

I think I read Sony was going to be adding DVR abilities to the PS4 at some point.

I haven't heard anything about that in months. I doubt it happens anytime soon, Sony can barely release minor firmware updates in a quick fashion much less add major functionality like that.

I'm struggling with this choice at the moment as well, hoping to settle sometime in the next week.

Feature and performance wise i think they're about even. Only real differentiator seems to be exclusive titles. PS4 might get the edge. Halo is a pretty massive weight in favor of XBone, but I'm beginning to question the longevity of the franchise, it's getting a bit stale.

XBone
Forza
Halo
Titanfall
Fable

PS4
Gran Turismo
Infamous
Killzone
The Order 1886
Uncharted
No Mans Sky (This is honestly a HUGE consideration and probably the deciding factor)

PS4 might also win out just because the special edition destiny bundle is the best looking console in the history of forever and the future

Sunset Overdrive is going to be another fun game for Xbone.
Quantum Break is another.

Really don't understand the love for No Man's Sky. It's an interesting concept, but in practice is it actually going to be fun to play or is it just going to be a $20 indie that gets a couple of hours of playtime and you think "that was cool to see, but boring to play."

I have always alternated between systems. I just made the decision to get a PS4 and play all the exclusive titles. Should last me a bit, then pick up an XBone sometime early spring.

Yeah why would anyone want to literally explore an entire universe? Bunch of bullocks.

Ps4 not having HBOGo stinks, but if I went with PS4 would probably get a Chromecast to solve the problem.

It's bollocks.

If it's only exploring, then not me? I didn't say it was going to suck, or that no one will enjoy it, but I just don't see a lasting appeal as a game if there's no goals. We don't all have to like the same things, guy.

Which is why lines like "I don't understand why people like <insert product>" are myopic and void of any value. There are games/genres I do not like due to personal preferences but I can understand why others would like them.

does it really not have HBO Go? What's the reason behind this? I watch HBO Go on my PS3 right now.

No idea why, but it's on PS3, Xbox 360, and Xbone. Really stinks. If it's not available now, there must be a contractual hiccup that may not get resolved any time soon.

did it have it at launch?

If so I suspect is has to do with support for Adobe Flash Player 11. Several devices from different companies lost the ability to access HBO Go after a recent software update on HBO's side.

I got an Xbox one for a few reasons. I knew my wife would like it more, being able to watch TV through it and talk to it. I also like being able to snap TV when I'm playing a game. Also, most of my friends had an Xbox so if I wanted to play with them then Xbox it was. I also prefer Xbox's online system better. I had both 360 and PS3 and barely played the PS3.

The Xbox One in general has a better app selection (which might be even greater if the win10 universal app stuff comes to fruition) assuming your consold will be doing more than just playing games. For instance just a few days ago they got a plex app and its awesome.... its already my most used thing on the xbox one.

It allows you to take ripped media and categorize it with plot summaries, box art, and theme music for TV episodes, categorized by genre. Basically like taking all of the info from imdb, and applying it to your movie or tv collection on a computer.

It's done by having a cpu set up as a media server, and then streaming movies to your Xbox One. If you have a lot of ripped media and a computer that's always on its a really awesome system.

I find it interesting he liked the PS3 better than the 360... 360 was the lead platform for most 3rd party games and they usually performed better on that system. Seems like a majority of people that had both consoles last gen (like me) enjoyed both but the 360 was the go-to console (mostly for it's online superiority).

Not much to add regarding the new consoles that hasn't already been said. I know MS got crucified by the media, but the box they ultimately shipped is pretty slick, as is the PS4. Gotta hand it to both companies, both units shipped and neither had any real glaring deficiencies. When the last gen consoles launched the RRoD was a big deal for 360's and the PS3 not only had major online issues, but it was laughably lacking in services compared to its overheating competition. Not the case this time... both came out pretty strong. I'm not sure about the PS4, but the XB1 has had monthly updates and each one has brought some really good changes/improvements to the XB1, so things are only getting better.

I have both PS3 and 360, and I prefer the PS3 overwhelmingly to the Xbox. I literally only dust off the Xbox when a new Halo title comes out and play for a few weeks.

I absolutely despise the 360 controller, and the controls never seem nearly as intuitive as the PS3. Overall I just enjoy playing the PS3 more. Plus it serves as my BluRay, Netflix, Hulu, HBOGo box.

Sure, you aren't the only one that preferred the PS3... but I will say I think you are very rare if you hate the 360 controller and LOVED the PS3 one. Even the strongest PS fans typically agreed that the old dual shock should have been retired after the PS2.

But I hear you on the BluRay player... my PS3 was the first one I had. I'm pretty sure I also used my PS3 for Netflix too instead of my 360. I really enjoyed having both last gen, but will probably just stick with one this time.

yeah, I can't stand the Xbox controller. Even the "smaller" one they came out with still felt like holding a brick. I like the way my hand wrap all the way around the PS3 controller, I feel like I have a better grip on it and have more precise control.

I'll definitely have both consoles eventually. But if I get the PS4 in the next few weeks I wont' get the Xbone until they release an updated version in a couple years.

I went to a PS4 this time after having a 360 and a PS2 before that. No real reason, just wanted to try something different and the media features of the XBone were not a big deal to me.

That all being said it seems like we are spending 90% of our time on the Wii U now, the PS4 and 360 just sit there.
hph6203
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Just to add a couple of things, in my experiences so far.

The UI on the Xbox One is significantly more streamlined and the marketplace is a lot cleaner than the PS4. At least for my tastes. Things seem much easier to find on the Xbox than the PS4.

The Xbox is also significantly quieter, I can't really hear the Xbox, but my PS4 I can hear even when watching videos or playing games.

The controller on the PS4 is also far more prone to experiencing interference than the Xbox controller.

If I were buying one today I'd choose the Xbox, but that's mostly because the exclusives that appeal to me are on the Xbox (Uncharted is the only PS4 exclusive that I'm looking forward to that has been announced and it's a year away). I however will be buying cross platform titles on the PS4 for the slight performance gains.

My PS4 doesn't make a sound
hph6203
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Not to be argumentative, but it has fans in it so it does make some sound. You may not notice it, but if you place them side by side there is a definite difference. This video mirrors my experience between the two consoles. Obviously there's a lot of ambient noise, so much so that I can barely hear anything coming from the One real world even with my ear next to it, but can clearly hear my PS4 sitting on my couch without having to try. That's the cost of getting a smaller more powerful system.

I just don't notice it then since I have a game playing with sound. I sit about 9-10 feet away.

Same thing with the light reflecting off the screen, if it was a pure black screen it shows up. But I never notice the lightbar when actually playing a game.

XB1 has html5. But it doesn't have HBO Go. It is supposed to arrive before the holidays though. Not sure I believe that, pretty sure they touted it as a launch app.
