We have had trouble streaming some movies lately particularly on Apple TV so I ran the speedtest.net. Below are my results:

Down .61Mbps Up 1.36Mbps

Down .53 Mbps Up 1.18Mbps

Down .92Mbps Up .53Mbps

We have suddenlink cable internet and I'm not sure if this is something I need to learn to live with or consider changing provider?

What does you ISP say you're supposed to get? Have you called them? Is this just on one machine or are you getting the same results with other computers?

I'm calling them today for all of that info. Sorry I don't know yet. It has been a while since we set it all up so I just don't remember.

For regular internet stuff it works fine, but streaming is where we have had problems. The speed test is from a different machine.

Do you have U-Verse? Because the 2Wire routers suck, and I've used a Netgear router to improve my speeds 10x.

Your upspeed (how fast you can push stuff to the internet) is actually pretty solid for non-FIOS connections.

Your downspeed (how fast you can pull stuff down, IE video streaming) is very low by modern standards, but could simply be the lower tier package your provider offers.

I can't imagine a situation where you are paying for .75 down/1.5 up, however.

We used to have DSL and were getting 1.5 mbps down/ 768 kpbs up. We switched to U-verse and now pay barely more (like $5-10/month) and have 12 mbps down/1.5 mpbs up to give you an idea.

Just found out we are paying for "up to 15mbps.

Where the tests all at the same time?


Also, have you tried unplugging the modem and replugging and then running the test?

Are you connected via wired or wireless?

Time to contact your ISP. I've got time warner paying for "up to 10mbps" but I get 16-18 mbps on my speedtests

Some test were run late last night, others first thing this morning.

Those particular test were run on my iphone so they would have been wireless.

I moved the modem and router into the living room from a back bedroom yesterday to attempt to improve the apple tv problem, so yes it has been recently unplugged.

I would hook a computer directly up to the modem and run the test.


Then compare that to your wireless tests to see if its a modem issue or wireless issue.

If you are paying for 15 you should get close to 15.... I do with my suddenlink cable modem. I very rarely drop below 15 mbit speed here.

Mine is running a little slow today, too.

They should offer to come help if you call. In my 2 experiences helping my parents with the same deal at their place with Suddenlink, one time they quickly said "your modem's shot" and gave us a replacement....the 2nd time I was on the phone for what seemed like forever troubleshooting until they finally said "we don't know" and they ended up coming around and messing with the lines around the house before they could fix it.

Those are awful speeds. If you call Suddenlink they'll help. I have Suddenlink at home and it's never that bad.

We are paying for 25 MBps down from TWC and regularly get 30ish on speedtest.

Those speeds that you are getting are very very very low for streaming.

Those are slow speeds for 10 years ago.

My HSPA+ iPhone gets downloads 3 to 5 times faster. That's not good.

Download speed is averaging north of 20mbps.

Not sure why I waited so long to call, but props to Suddenlink for solving the issue!

I'd ask for an adjustment on my bill since you paid for services not rendered

worst case, you'll get something... may be more difficult if you're under some kind of contract, but still worth a shot

I pay for 15mbps with Suddenlink and regularly get 25-28mbps. I used to only get in the 5-6mbps range until I replaced my modem. Made a HUGE difference.
