I am intrigued by Windows Phone 8, anyone else? The Lumia 920 looks like a solid phone and as a heavy MS Office user I assume that the new OS will have better integration with Office than android.

I am happy with android for the time being, but I might be easily swayed to windows if it looks like it will catch on.

The 920 will most likely be my next phone. I've been swapping back and forth between an iPhone 4 and an LG Quantum (WP 7.5) for the past year and a half, depending on my mood. I like both platforms, but I believe Microsoft is catering much more to power users with WP 8 than Apple ever will with iOS. We still don't know too much about WP 8; Microsoft hasn't done a full reveal of all the features yet. The 920 looks like it's going to be a fantastic bit of hardware, though. If Nokia is able to get it on more than just AT&T, I think the 920 is finally going to be the hero device that WP 8 needs to start gaining some ground on the big two. (Rumors indicate Verizon is a strong possibility.)

I thought this was suppose to be the case with the lumia 900

Yes, that's how Nokia (and Microsoft to a certain extent) pitched the 900. Now we know that Microsoft had planned all along on WP 7 to be the last hurrah for the CE kernel, making the 900 almost obsolete before it even launched.

The SDK shows that Microsoft intends to give devs the ability to push their own backgrounds and notifications out to the lock screen. This would be something Android doesn't support yet (except for OEM skins, I guess), and something that Apple will never, ever, ever allow. Should be a lot of fun to see what third-party apps can do with that kind of deep access to the lock screen.

According to this it sounds like the 920 might be AT&T only for 6 months. That would be a huge mistake for Nokia & MS. MS needs to get this phone in as many hands as possible to make a big splash.

Called it... anything more than a 1 day exclusive is a death blow to nokia here. Just guarantees the 8x to be the phone people get that go wp8 as it will be on tmobile/Verizon/at&t.

Thought I read speculation HTC was gaining more favor and may be the actual flagship of WP8. HTC more of Microsofts Windows Phone vision.

Which happens first? Microsoft releases their own phone or Microsoft buys Nokia?

I don't think Microsoft has any real interest in buying Nokia anytime soon. The launch of Windows 8 is going to be expensive and require a lot of company resources.

Also, Best Buy announced pre-orders of the 920 for $149 with new 2yr contracts. That should be a very competitive price.

Maybe someone can help me out here. My wife and I are about to become first time smart phone owners. She is set on an Iphone 5 because "it's the best". I'm looking hard at the Nokia 920 because I don't really want to be stuck in the Apple mold.

For those of you that like the 900 or the 920, what is it that you think will set it apart from the Iphone in terms of day-to-day use? Standalone maps are nice, but what other features make it better that might offset the smaller app library? Or is it too early to say until Windows Phone 8 gets rolled out completely?

If you are both first time smartphone users, the iPhone 5 is a good choice. Not because it's the "best", which is arguable either way, but because it's so dang easy to setup and use. HSAT, Windows Phone is also very easy to use. The downside to WP is that the app support just isn't as strong as iOS or Android and it will be awhile before it catches up. It really comes down to what you use your phone for and what you're wanting to be able to do with a smartphone. Personally, my favorite features of WP in general are the calendar integration with Outlook.com and Exchange, as well as the Live Tiles and lock screen info. iPhones cannot do this without jailbreaking. (I can't jailbreak because my employer doesn't allow it.) I'm specifically looking forward to the camera (hardware image stabilization and f2.0 aperture will make low-light shooting much better than on the iPhone) and wireless charging on the 920.

I want to see a surface phone.... but would like it bypass carriers and run real winRT and leverage skype for calling.

I would say its integration with other ms products and services would be the reason to choose.... skydrive, xbox, xbox music/video, skype, etc. If you use more apple stuff then the iphone would be better... itunes, icloud, appletv, imessage, etc.

Nokia maps are actually really good (arguably the best out there because of the true offline nature) and should have the best camera phone available.

Thank you both for your perspective. I think I'll hold out for the 920. Hopefully they'll firm up pricing and availability soon.

I'm sitting on my upgrade in order to wait for the 920. I currently have an iPhone 4S and played around with the 900 quite a bit. Not as impressed with the 8X from what I've seen so far.

I'm pretty tied into the Apple ecosystem with an iPhone, iPad and a few Apple TV's. I think the WP8, Windows 8 and a Surface tablet combination could get me to make the ecosystem jump. Any idea if the Windows 8 tablets or WP8 devices will have any automatic Skydrive backup feature similar to iCloud backup? I think the Xbox Music service could offset my loss of iTunes Match and also replace Spotify for me. If there is a iCloud backup equivalent (looking for an OTA backup I mean) tehn I would just need to find a replacement for the movies I can stream (and download to my device for offline viewing) from my iTunes collection.

The cross platform UI integration and data sharing via Skydrive has me very interested. Looking forward to reviews of the 920 when it comes out and hopefully it'll be enough to get me to make the jump rather than settling for an iPhone 5.

Best Buy was offering preorders yesterday at $149 with new contract. That could be the AT&T price too, which would be very competitive. You have to spend twice as much to get an iPhone 5 with the same amount of RAM (32gb.)

Its a good thing for me that the 920 is an AT&T exclusive for 6 months. That will force me to sit and wait to see if WP8 is catching on before I jump ship from android.

Just cause its new doesn't make it good. I would wait. If you don't have trouble with android then stay with it.
