I'm building a new house and will have a 13'x18' media room with two levels (one foot step up is approx 8.5' from front wall).

I am looking for suggestions on optimum TV/screen size for this size room as well as LED TV vs. projector/screen. I have been looking at the Sharp 70" and 80" LED TVs, but haven't started to research projector options.

What are some of the pros/cons of LEDTV vs. projector? Sharp 80" TV runs about $4000. What would a comparable projector setup cost? Anything else I should be looking at? I'm not a tech guy and won't be playing games - media room is just going to be for sports and movies.

The Sharp 80 inch is not very good according to a recent review in Sound & Vision magazine. I think you could get a much better picture for $4K-$5K with a projector unless the room is too bright.

Certainly you could spend a lot more, but $1-2k would buy you a VERY capable projector with the ability to go with a much larger screen size. But like Spicewood said, ambient light is your only issue.

Thanks for the tips guys. Ambient light is not an issue as there are no windows in the media room and lights are on a dimmer switch. Room is painted maroon (of course) so nice and dark.

For the projector, is there an optimal size screen for the room size? The room isn't huge so I am worried a 90-100" screen would be too much anyways.

I have the exact same dimensions for my HT, with a 110 inch screen combined with a Panasonic pt-ae4000u projector and it doesn't seem overwhelming. Just the right amount of wow.
