Diablo 2 on Mac OS X (Lion)

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Tried to run Diablo 2 on my MacBook Pro that I recently upgraded to Lion. I never finished the game but want to with Diablo 3 on the horizon.

However, it appears that PPC apps are no longer supported by Lion. A quick google search uncovered that the Rosetta pkg that is needed is not included on the new OS. Has anyone figured out a workaround for this? Blizzard's website simply says that they will no longer support any of the older games on Lion. SC2 and such will be (and have been) updated so that they run.

Thoughts? Ideas? TIA.

If you have your machine setup for dual booting to windows you can download the x86 executable from blizzard.net using your product key.

Unfortunately I don't. I never wanted to buy parallels and don't have an extra windows install disk lying around for Boot Camp.

Good suggestion though. Anyone know how to run PowerPC programs on Lion?

I don't have much OSX experience, is setting up a virtual machine, with the older OS, a possibility?

Another option is to get WINE (lets you run some PC programs in OS X) But I don't know if Diablo II has both versions on the disk.

Virtual machine might work. I gave up on my PPC programs after a while.

Get a cheap firewire enclosure, install an old HDD in it and then install OS X 10.6 to the firewire drive.

You can then boot off the firewire drive and into OS 10.6 to run Diablo 2 or any other PPC application.

To my knowledge there is no way to run PPC applications in OS X 10.7, they have completely removed that backwards compatibility to streamline the codebase and obviously force people to buy new software.

Keeping 10.6 around is similar to what happened when the code base moved from 9.2 to 10.
