So I've had AT&T Uverse (TV & Internet) for 6 months now and we've realized that we hardly ever watch it. In fact, we catch most tv episodes online. Its cheap, I feel that we aren't watching the $40 a month worth of service.

What do services do you use to keep up with shows?

I cut the tv cord about six months ago. I've been using Netflix and Amazon Prime to somewhat keep up with shows. I was a hulu member for a while as well. The only thing that I truly miss is live sports.

I ended up going internet only with comcast for around forty dollarsa month.

I have just suddenlink internet.... pay $50/month.

hulu+ does a good job replacing the dvr'd shows on the national networks (and clear qam for live sports on the national networks), espn3 covers the espn family of networks pretty well for the rest of my live sports.

Then netflix for old tv shows and movies. For all other specific series I don't want to miss I just purchase a season pass on the xbox (only 2 or 3 of those).

I cut my suddenlink cable the other day. ESPN App or WatchESPN through my parents Verizon account for sports. HTPC for watching the movies and tv seasons I already own as well as streaming shows from the networks.

The only thing I am going to miss is NBA on TNT and NBA and college basketball on FSN.

The ONLY thing?

I've thought about doing that myself, but missing out on live sports is not an option.

Yeah, no Rangers, no deal

And you say grilled cheese every night like it's a bad thing.

I gave away my tv about 5 yrs ago. Like others I use Netflix, Hulu, Amazon to keep up with my stories. For sports, Espn3 carries quite a bit of college football & basketball. Sunday night football is streamed online by nbc, there is also a link to it on cbssports.com. During the season cbssports streamed one SEC football game every week and streams all the games of march madness. Pro sports are tough. You can catch MLB games on espn3 once or twice a week (Sunday/Wed?). For most other pro sports I usually check in here http://www.vipbox.tv/. Most streams are low def for sure though.

Get an OTA antenna. Get basic channels free. Stream Netflix and ESPN through the xbox. The only thing you lose out on is Fox Sports Network.

I could handle having TV only a third of the year for Aggie Football. Cancel the rest.

I kind of like grill cheese sandwiches.

If TWC would quit being so *****y with their ESPN3 permissions, I wouldn't have such a hard time. I usually hang out at friends places on nights that have must-watch sports.

I'll be cancelling cable now that college football is just about over. With an antenna to pick up local HD Hulu Plus and Netflix along with the occasional show via iTunes is everything I need.

How I wish I could get to this point...cable is such a waste of money and time. We find ourselves watch crap after crap just rotting our brains.

The problem though is clearly live sports.

You need:

ESPN
FSN
TNT (NBA)
TBS (MLB Playoffs)

So on and so forth.

If I could find a legitamite streaming options for my live sports I would be fine with the national networks, and then digital content (most have been named on here).

If you are dropping cable, no reason to keep TWC. Get U-verse internet or some other provider that doesn't charge out of this world prices for non-bundled internet. U-verse allows access to espn3, so does twc.

only problem is FSN. You have to cut back on the rangers watching. Go to bars or a friends house for big games and aggie games, but you'd be surprised what you can do with all the time you used to spend watching (more or less) meaningless games.

Do tell?

I could live with no FSN now that Aggie football will be mostly on CBS or ESPN (Even that I only have to worry about away games because I have season tickets).

The only thing I would miss would be a few Aggie BBall games that are on FSN...I could make it.

I haven't had cable since 2008, but every time I call to check prices, TWC will smoke AT&T's prices. I only had one issue that pissed me off with TWC in the past few years which led to no home network for about a week, but they upgraded me and dropped my monthly rate.

Would like to see more discussion on this...

If anyone can solve my NBA, MLB (Playoffs), and MNF problem I would cut cable tomorrow...

Oh, and going to a bar or friends house doesn't count.

Local in-market pro sports is the only reason to have cable right now. There is no solution that doesn't involve a tremendous picture quality loss.

The fact is your value as a cable subscriber to FSN is based on ad buys. ESPN mainly (and I say this loosely) gets money on subs. Their ad buys are gravy.

If you strip away ad buys from FSN they go broke.

Your statement is correct, until you start talking about three very big things:

Monday Night Football
MLB Playoffs (TBS)
NBA Playoffs (TNT)

Those are the last I need solved.... Our football games will be on CBS and ESPN3. I will miss a few of the BBall games that are on FSN but I could live with that.

MLB Playoffs on TBS can be streamed online (at a cost) via MLB.TV Postseason. I've done this the past two years due to being at work when games were on. This only accounts for the TBS games, though...not the ones on FOX.

So there's one thing off your list.
