Battlefield 3 - Hardcore or Regular Mode???

Notice I didn't call it "softcore" mode. So some of you know my dislike for hardcore mode, but I know there are some/several Texag guys that like Hardcore. We've had some small in-game discussions, but it's hard to have lengthy debates in between gun shots. I have my 2 cents to add along with a bit of new info I just found about the game:

New Info: So aparently if you shoot an usupressed weapon in BF3 you will briefly show up as a red (enemy) dot on the minimap (just like in COD - link below). I say this is a good add to the series and gives more strategy to the game based on weapon loadouts. This guy also talks about how 3D spotting is really improved among other goodies.
Source: http://www.reddit.com/r/battlefield3/comments/lextg/my_lengthy_impressions_after_lots_of_playtime_on/

So in light of this and the fact that the mini-map is such a tactical tool I don't see why hardcore is so popular. I want to know where my teammates are... I want to know when I have some heavy vehicals coming up the road to support me. W/out the minimap I don't feel like there is any strategy. I want to be able to anaylze the situation quickly and figure out if I need to push forward or hold tight. It's nice to know if 3-4 guys are making some noise on the right flank... perfect time for me to sneek around the left. I feel completely blind with no sense of purpose (other than shoot what moves) in hardcore.

I'd like to see some debates on why y'all think certain modes are better.

Soundoff: Hardcore or Regular mode???

I play almost exclusively HC as a part of the group that played a lot when BFBC2 was up and running.

IMO, I prefer HC because it requires more strategy. The mini-map is an aide that makes the game easier. Playing on HC forces a squad to communicate and use a lot more strategy when you can't rely on a mini-map for spotting enemies and knowing when a vehicle respawns.

I primarily played regular mode and I'm fully guilty of relying on the minimap. But on the other hand, if you're with a good group of guys who are constantly communicating where they are, where vehicles are, and where enemies are, I guess it wouldn't be as bad.

Starting off, (or playing without a squad) I need the helps that regular mode offers. Mini-map, spotting, lower bullet damage, etc. Once I know the layout of the maps and have a good squad, HC is the way to go.

Hardcore all the way. I doubt I will even touch regular mode.

It just takes too many shots to take someone down. I'm so used to not having a map from BC2 that I don't even notice it anymore.

Only play hardcore, mini map and kill cams take any strategy being used out of the game. Plus its nice not having to dump an entire clip into someone to take them down.

Aggie, you know I get a stiffy over hardcore. When I play without teamates though, I usually head to softcore, because it's easier when you're not relying on a bunch of randoms to let you know what's going on. I like realism in these games that are striving to be ultra-realistic, and I have confirmed that in real life, there is no HUD grafted to your eye ball.

As others have said, when you have a squad that communicates, it removes the need for the aides.

One of the reasons many like the BF series vs. COD is that BF feels much more realistic vs. arcade. If you strive for realism, mini-maps, targets, etc. should go bye-bye.

Maybe I don't know how to communicate:

"Uh, yeah, I'm over here by this tree... and um... I just spotted a sniper... crap, there's no spotting in hard core... OK guys, well the sniper is in that house... umm... the 2 story house... it's a... it's the darker brown house on the left... or rather, if you are coming up from say the creek, then it's on the right side... OK he's in the 2nd story window and um... oh, you guys are on the complete other side of the map!!! I'll just sit here for a bit then I guess... ah crap... I just accidentally shot whoever spawned on me... you guys gotta warn a brother before you just show up like that!!!!"

*AguasAg has left your Xbox Live party*
*Pilmer has left your Xbox Live party*
*Deathmullet has left your Xbox Live party*

"Ah c'mon guys... mullet admits that he sucks and even he left... c'mon!!!!!!"

That's hardcore in a nutshell for me!!!

Maybe if we can all agree to play regular at first, until we at least learn the maps, maybe I can learn to like hardcore.

I play HC mostly because I don't like having to pump a clip into someone to take them down.

When I get the jump on someone I want to take them down and not have them see where I did it from.

The only problem I have with HC is sometimes it can become Call of Battlecampfare 45.

jr15- If there is a party full of Ags in the same game, you'll learn to love hardcore. It really helps when you're steamrolling the other team to learn the maps.

Haha, Aggie, I don't think the shitty Xbox live party servers are tied to hardcore. I'll play both, I don't care.

I find both play types fun. Hardcore is more team-based, but it's alot easier to gain a ton of levels playing softcore with spotting and healing.

If I'm on my own, regular. It always seemed easier to find full games in regular on BC2. If I have people that know how to communicate to play with, I'd rather play hardcore. The limited HUD draws me into the game more.

Well, I pretty much only play with you guys when I can so I'll play whatever. I do think regular will be a must at first... once we get the layout we can all rock it however. And yes, we do typically dominate when the lobby is full of Aggies!!!

That's the other big thing I like about regular. I'm a big fan of playing medic and reviving downed buddies, but it is ridiculously harder to find someone downed in HC than regular with the icon.

hardcore!

FACT: it doesn't take a full clip of .223 and especially not 308 cal rounds to put someone in the ground in real life!

you want realism? THEN GO HARDCORE!

Alright, played a few hours of BFBC2 last night exclusively on hardcore and it wasn't too bad.
I already posted in the official BC2 thread, but who is up for some BC2 over the next week as a warm-up?

THIS!!! They don't show you ANYTHING in hardcore. I can understand the no mini-map... reduced damage to kill... no kill cams... etc... but they don't give you any info in Hardcore. No ammo counts, no icons showing teammates that need reviving, you can't even see vehicle repair status as an engineer.

I'm all for ADDED realism, but I don't need it to be all the way realistic. When I dove hunt I don't have ammo counts or icons showing where my dead birds are...that's cool... when I play games I want to know all that info!!!

I'll play hardcore with you guys if that's what the majority wants to play... I'm just HOPING that DICE made some tweaks to BF3 HC mode compared to BC2.

I'm down.

Been playing the original Assassin's Creed and the original Gears of War, but if you send me an invite, I'll jump in your squad.

After playing for a while last night, I realized it wasn't as bad as I remembered. There are still names above your buddies, their health, and I believe it would even flash a certain icon if they needed health or ammo. Not too bad!

As far as the vehicle repair, if you listen closely, the sound effects changes when the vehicle is completely repaired (the animation/sparks might change too). It IS tough when you're driving around and you can't tell how low you armor is, but it at least beeps when it is really low.

The idea is that, in HC, you travel with your squad to do battle, and that squad contains a medic, a supply an engineer and another random. So when you're down, you're down right next to or within visual of your medic. Same goes for needing ammo.

Don't get me wrong, I like softcore for leveling up quicker and standing guys up the entire match, but outside of gaining XP, I think HC is much more fun to play.

Good points tacoman.

If your a medic the bar above the head of teammates is their health. If your assault the bar above them is how much ammo they have. If they are in a tank the bar above the name is the tank damage. All that shows in hardcore when you get within a certain range.

Or if in doubt throw it out anyways, someone will run to it.
