So I received my final sprint bill today, and it has a few WTF charges.

1. Federal-Univ Serv Assess Non-LD $28.85
State-State Cost Recovery Fee $7.57
Texas State-Univ Serv Assessment $19.58
I normaly pay about $13 dollars a month total for all surcharges

2. They charged sales tax of the ETF fees??? Are ETF fees taxable??? I think Not

3. I seem to recall I paid one month in advance on my first bill. Should I not have $222 hanging around sprints books that should be applied to my final bill.

It seems like a lot of bogus charges, but why wouldn't ETFs be taxable?

Well it is not a tangible good, and as far I can see falls under none of the taxable services. will be giving a call this weekend.

I remember reading that years ago, almost every cell provider's bill listed "taxes" that really weren't taxes.

I had a bill like that with verizon. After two reps and some questions I had reduced my final bill by about 80%. Tell me they aren't trying to get a few extra drops of blood.

WTF? I have Sprint and I ONLY pay 29.99 per month. Granted it's just a 450 minutes anytime and unlimited mobile to mobile and free nights and weekends. I don't have texting or web but honestly who cares. You sir are getting robbed.

Tamu - If you mean the $222 that is a great price as it was 5 lines.

Unfortuablty due to work and coverage I had to change providers, and sprint lubed up and is trying to molest me as I walk out the door.

Update - Basically sprint said I was SOL on all accounts.

1. Taxed on ETF fees - Said the system showed that the tax rate of 14% is valid for my area - I pointed out the Texas tax code and the fact that my local sales tax os 8.25% and it did not matter.

2. The extremely high Surcharges - Basically they can charge what they want.

3. The fact that I should have a credit since sprint charges a month in advance - SOL - They show I was not overcharges EVEN THOUGH I SHOWED THEM WHERE PER THEIR BILLS I WAS CHARGED TWICE for AUG 4- SEPT 3 2010.

No company id any better than the other and they are all crap!!.

Of course I will pay the bill, but by my estimate I am being overcharged almost $300 dollars. What would happen if I paid and filed in small claims?

This ticks me off and I'm not the one getting screwed! Good luck with small claims. I don't think you will get far. The best bet is to complain to the Texas State Attorney General's office. If they get enough complaints they may go after Sprint in a class action suit. I'm surprised at the 14% tax rate.....

When I canceled sprint 6 or 7 years ago I got my final final bill from them about 6 months later trying to get me to pay over a thousand dollars in charges, fees, and penalties. Of course I fought and won the argument.

The interesting part was that my Father in Law warned me that something like that might happen, because it had happened to him. Seems to be their standard operating procedure.

this aint yo daddy's sprint.

yes its true sprint was godawful early last decade, but the ship has been righted by dan hesse. their customer service is really great, they have broad coverage, cool phones and affordable plans. the only reason i wouldnt recommend sprint to someone is that if it happens to be theres no great coverage in their work/home areas, in which case i'd say go verizon.

as far as the OP, i hope you can somehow get it resolved

Have you tried calling back and trying again. Its often times just a matter of getting the right person on the phone. I have had luck before just saying "its a bogus charge and Im simply not going to pay it. I think it should be removed and I intend to continue calling until its handled."

I don't know why, but it has worked for me before.

There are .... ahem....certain 'ethnic' groups that are often less than helpful. Its no secret. Oddly enough, if I get what sounds like a white male with a lisp who is potentially gay on the phone, I know I won't have to put up much fight to have them graciously handle the situation.

I say keep fighting them on it. Their only purpose in life is to f--- you out of more money. Screw them.
