This is probably a really dumb question, but I'm new to Macs so here goes.

I've created a document in Pages. I saved it as a .doc file, but when I send it to someone who opens it on a PC the formatting of the document is all messed up. Basically things don't line up and aren't where they are when I look at it on my end. Is there any way to make it look the same to my recipient as it does for me when I save it on my Mac? Thanks.

You could print it to pdf and send it that way, but in order to edit it, the other person would need Acrobat Pro.

If you are going to be doing this on a regular basis, I would look into buying Office 2011.

Yeah honestly I can't see it being an issue that often. I think the .pdf option will probably work best for what I need. Thanks.

Pages is great because of the built-in layouts and everything, but they don't always line up when you convert it to a Word document.

Pages docs will look great if you export to PDF. I did that with my resume and it looked awesome.

Bottom line is if you need the document to look exactly the same in Word and it needs to be edited in Word later....you might want to invest in Office 2011. If you can use PDF's, by all means you can stick with Pages.

Export to .pdf as mentioned before works good. But unfortunately Pages to Word or Keynote to PowerPoint or Numbers to Excel doesn't always work 100%. I have Office '08 on my machine and it works great and has a really nice "Mac" feel to it. If you want a free option, download NeoOffice, should get the job done ok.

You can also upload the documents to iWork.com and have people sign in with their AppleID's (same as their iTunes account information) and they can all edit everything that way. Or Google Docs. Lots of options to make it work. I think Pages and Keynote is far superior, but I like Excel better than numbers.

Awesome thanks for all the info. I think printing to .pdf will work for what I need. I'd worked on my resume and didn't want it to look funky when someone opened it on a PC.

I send my resume to everyone in a .pdf. It's universal and they can't change it
