I just ordered this thing to help clean off my desk and stop losing bills and receipts. Visioneer products were recommended to me over Neatworks.

The installation went smoothly and the software is great; but the image quality is straight up POS. The text is full of smears and blurs and about every other line is vertically crunched to the point where it isn't readable. I'm scanning on the highest resolution. Is it me or the machine?

It is a portable sheetfed duplex scanner. It doesn't have a document tray. You can feed docs up to 5 pages at a time but you have to set it in there yourself. I wonder if it isn't a problem with the rollers or feed rate.

I spent roughly double for the Fujitsu scansnap, but it produces great PDF scans. Just relating my experience...

I got the Epson GT1500. It also works well, but the default software's a bit clunky.

Don't forget that the other part is keeping things organized. I'm using a tagging app (and thinking hard about writing my own) because I kept running into situations where folders didn't work well enough (i.e. something is house renovation expenses but is also a tax credit, so it needs to go in both taxes and renovations...)

What is your dpi setting? I usually scan documents at 300 dpi. You might be scanning at 100 dpi or lower from your short description of the problem.
