but...will they all sell out within a matter of hours, and have ridiculous lines? or was Apple smart enough to allow supply to meet demand?

just wondering if it is even worth trying to buy one in the next day or two..

Good choice. I certainly don't come here to see threads about anything other than the iPhone so I really love that every single subject is discussed in its own individual thread.

Just heard on the radio that they sold 1.5 million iPhone 4's the first week.

I'm guessing that number includes the preorders that haven't shipped yet. Pretty impressive for Apple and AT&T.

iPhone threads are practically all there is in this forum anymore... plus, if I just let it go, then they'll never learn anything.

Look at the number of Evo 4G threads. There's pretty much one. The rest of the threads with Evo in the title are comparisons to other models so they don't exactly fit in that thread.

All I'm saying is that people don't have to start a brand new thread for every single question or comment they have about the iPhone. Honestly, there's already been like 30 iPhone threads. (Literally 30 iphone threads in the last 5 days, I just counted).

If this board got covered in a deluge of inane question threads about any other subject it would bug me too.

OP is talking about AT&T store...

Apple Store has had walk-in stocks last week. I picked mine up at Apple Store last Friday after an hour wait, no reservation.

I called a few Apple stores around Houston. No walk-in stock available, and none of them knew when they were getting any more in. Those who walked in and got one are the exception, not the rule I think...

Im not sure about the first question (initial thought was Briarcrest but do not know which one will get the most of them). Thinking about going up at 6, reading a paper until they open and then on to work.

Line outside of the AT&T store at Preston & 121 seemed to have about 20-30 people standing outside. One guy was walking out with a bag so I passed. I'm not interested in waiting in line for 2+ hours, especially in the drizzle.

I may call them later to see if they have any 32GB left, otherwise I may just wait until mid July when my phone makes it in.

I am still blown away that people are willing to wait in line to get a phone.

I'm not. Some people have nothing better to do.

The line was at least half college/high school aged kids (maybe not everyone one of them was getting a phone). Probably some stay-at-home Moms/Dads there too, plus some folks that had the day off or work from home.

I'd sit in line for something like this with my kid or wife, maybe a friend but in general it's not worth my time. I stopped by the Stonebriar Apple Store yesterday as a friend got a 32GB iPhone4 there on Friday without a reservation. There was no official line, but I remembered how much I hate those stores so I didn't even bother trying to talk to someone.

Walked up, in 5 minutes had a reservation for a 32GB arriving later today that, again, I can just walk in and purchase.

Just as with any product purchase, I will spend around 10 minutes total purchasing...like anyone should.

rasher, my thoughts exactly. It is like when the PS2 came out and losers were camping out in Best Buy parking lots for 2-3 days just to be one of the first to get one.

I was told that the AT&T store above was doing the reservation thing and expected to have more 32GB later this afternoon.

I walked in to get on the list and they received a shipment at the same time. I walked out with my new phone right then and there.

Less than 30 minutes of time to make the call, drive there, get my phone and get back to the office.

Too bad I need to be productive today.

for you guys that have upgraded or are upgrading from a previous iphone to iphone 4, do I need to go ahead and sync my current phone with itunes before heading to the store?

I wish I would as now this evening when I get home I have to go through the backup process and then restore to my new phone. Wish I would have thought about it last night so I only had to restore this evening.

This would kinda piss me off considering I pre-ordered on the 16th and still wont get mine til next week....

Yeah, Randall...I had pre-ordered from Apple and it still hadn't shipped. So I dropped by the store, pre-ordered for the afternoon shipment, and cancelled my Apple order.

I did the same thing. I was kind of surprised that I was given a phone right then and there. I was at a counter to get a ticket for later and the guy just went and got me a phone.

I'm happy for myself but I hope someone that had already gotten a ticket doesn't miss out on getting their phone today.

That said, the guy may have just figured it was better to get the guaranteed commission while I was standing in front of him.

Edit: one other comment, I was told it could take a while for the switch to happen due to the volume of changes today however I've now been without service for the past hour (old phone switched off and the new one hasn't switched on yet). No big deal as I'm in the office but I'm hoping it starts working soon.

Might help to turn it off wait 30 sec and power it back up...worked for me after waiting 1.5 hrs hoping it would connect on it's own.

I cancelled my Apple Store preorder as I was waiting in line.

I picked mine up this morning also, lovin it.

AT&T servers were hosed, but I got my phone. They'll activate it later.

Oh well, the hard part is out of the way.

I pre ordered thru apple scheduled to arrive July 19th today I called AT&T store and was told they had some in stock. I had to wait about 1 hr because their computers were down but I got my iphone 4! now to cancel apple order.
