What exactly is team prestige? Is it just like a ranking of the overall football program?

Yep.

I was glad to see that we didn't get knocked down to a 4*.

Here's to Sherman kicking ass and taking names!

These seem to be outdated for a lot of teams. Just glancing at it I would have Clemson, Kstate and Mizzou all one star higher. You could even make a case for Notre Dame to be bumped down to 5* after their dismal season last year. Storied program or not, they blew chunks last year. I guess their recruiting didn't take a hit according to Rivals and other sites that track blue chippers.

Prestige isn't won or lost in a season. Every team has had bad seasons...that doesn't mean your whole program sucks.

bugle - are you going to play in my TexAgs online dynasty?

I'm waiting on some more information to come in.. but depending on the number of players that Online Dynasty can handle - and whether or not coaches can receive promotions - will determine the starting point.

Right now - I'm thinking about taking 12 players and randomly assigning Conference USA teams.

This will give us a conference championship game, make us recruit against the big boys, and make us unlikely to go undefeated. Then with any luck maybe someone will get a BCS invite or move their team into a BCS conference.

If coaches (players) can get promoted or offered new positions (I'm not sure if they will) then I'll have everyone pick a team in the bottom 3/4 of teams and work their way into the big time.

Wow, you can do a lot of arguing over that list.

Glad to see us get the 5* though

Sellis-

That's very ambitious of you but I'm down for whatever kind of league you want to set up. It would take some serious committments from users to know we'd play enough seasons to make it work though. I played a dynasty with my bro last year for about 5-6 seasons with a couple of lowly CUSA teams and it was fun, but we're both avid about dynasty mode.

Count me in for whatever league you're setting up. I know you had a couple of different ideas so if you can get enough response on this kind of thing let's do it man. I think having it online this yr will create even more community since we'll be able to track each other's success and not just play a bunch of skirmishes, per se.

We had a great turnout for Season 1 of people that wanted to play.. but the League setting of trying to play another human every game / every week and then stat entry and roster issues - it was a little much for the casual players and we lost some people when they realized it could be a chore.

I've got a spreadsheet of those that dedicated time and effort from last season and have basically built my "base/core 12" that I am hoping can start a long running dynasty.

My ultimate goal (since I believe this '09 release is going to finally be a release you can play year long) would be have a dynasty run from soon after the rosters are released until the release point for NCAA 2010. It's ambitious but with the right players and if I can get a good core of 6-8 players then we can add and remove coaches as they wish to come and go.

Of course with new games and Holidays in the fall - I imagine we'll just change the time frame to give everyone enough time to want to participate but not be bogged down.

I hope I make your 'A' list then. That all sounds good to me. Ultimately I try to take a dynasty for as long as possible and it's definitely more fun to have a bunch of guys playing than me ripping through the AI year after year.

What are your plans for either choosing a roster on EA locker and/or editing?
sellis2003

Roster file will probably come from DT (psxsports) or fkrosters (although they recently sold out.. and I'm not sure about the new owners / website).

I've tried to go in the past with the most accurate and updated - but I figure since we'll be using lesser known teams - just having the names is more important. By the time the updated and corrected rosters begin dropping hopefully we'll be well into the season if not in the post season.

Sounds good, I've used DT's stuff some in the past and it's pretty solid. Honestly they're all the same... real player names are there but you'll always have a discrepancy or two with freshmen being left off or guys still on the team who shouldn't be. We'll see if EA leaves Yemi on our roster. I'm actually a little fearful to see how badly our O-line will be rated.

of course if people aren't interested in everyone being the same conference I could see that being fun as well and really minimizing the amount of scheduling needed since human vs. human would be limited. Of course we'd probably still be competing over some of the same recruits and might meet up in bowl games and OOC games.

Both ways really interest me... enough so that I might have to Commish two dynasties. I'll have to see about the time requirements - which I really do believe are going to be reduced significantly.

bugle - let me know if you want to get some NCAA 08 action tonight or this weekend. I started a new dynasty last night.. but wouldn't might getting in a few games online.

Or anyone else that would be interested.

meaning you'll have less real-life time to devote, or it will require less moderation on your part than 'season 1' from last year?

i should be on XBL tonight, hit me up, i don't mind playing a little '08. (The Onizzle)
sellis2003

that it will require less moderation. If people can't schedule their games vs. humans, get their games played vs. the cpu and recruit - I don't have to wait - or feel obligated or be pissed at the fact that I am going to have to enter the stats.

I simply move the week forward at the set time on the pre-defined day and whoever isn't finished will be simmed right along.

I'll look for you around tonight.

We did a dynasty with me and three other friends way back in 2002 or so.

We put all the conference USA teams names in a hat and drew and then played until one of us won the MNC.

Big match-ups were played with everyone watching and lots of beer and popcorn - was a little like actually watching a real football game.

Everyone except for one participant tried to play the game like a real football game would be played (punting, lots of mix in the passing and running, etc.)

The teams we ended up playing with were - Houston, TCU, Louisville, and Southern Miss. Southern Miss made it to the MNC game first, but the coach was drunk after watching a Louisville/TCU bowl match-up earlier in the night and the Golden Hawks ended up getting stomped by Miami by thirty points.

Houston, coached by me, recruited a two star tailback that ran a 4.2 forty. He couldn't hold on the ball, but he was dangerous on the corners. Lot's of sweeps and option pitches with the tailback staying near the boundary in case of a fumble (usually would roll out of bounds). He led the Cougs to the MNC game where they won the game and won the dynasty.

Crazy that I still remember that much about it. I still remember the big match-up with TCU where my buddy was averaging about 70 points a game. We ended up blocking a punt and won with a crazy score of like 70-73.

I had a very similar experience which is why I am so damn excited about this years game. I'm pretty sure my old dynasty buddies will be available - the only downside is that we will be playing over the net instead of having a big gathering with booze, beer, and smack talk. I still think it will be a blast though.

BTW - I have received pretty good confirmation that the online dynasty is limited to 12 players over 60 seasons. So I think it comes down to three ways of starting the season:

1. If you can be invited to coach a new school then everyone will start with a terrible team.

2. Everyone is in C-USA (whether a coach can change schools or not) - and we recruit and play against each other for the majority of the dynasty).

3. Everyone gets split up with 4 Teams from Big 12, 4 Teams from the SEC, 4 Teams from the ACC - so that everyone must via for a Conference championship game to get to the MNC - I'd also consider teams from all BCS conferences - but I'm not sure about Big East - I'd at least think PAC-10 / BIG-10 would be required to level the playing field.

There are some other ideas, and I'm open to suggestions.
