Wow that was the least professional professional football game ending I've ever seen

that was some serious low football I.Q. by the QB and head coach

They had like 25 seconds after the sack. Could have run a quick play to the sidelines for 1st then maybe take 2 shots to the endzone before trying a kick. Just awful.

That would have been inexcusable even if they didn't have a timeout. Having the timeout available puts it on an entirely different level of incompetence.

with 14 seconds left...the Bears were lined up on the ball

but then Williams -- must have been checking his voicemail -- didn't call for the snap until 6 seconds remained

And that down started with 26 seconds, Williams shouldn't be avoiding any criticism. Once you get thr call in, and have decided to save the timeout to ensure you kick a Fg there, the QB has to get the play off

It's on the players and the coach.

Williams had to have more urgency than he did and Eberfloos has to step in when he realizes it's ticking down.

Complete failure all around and Burleson summer it nicely in saying 'Im not calling for anyone's job but mistakes like that are what get people fired'.

Ain't no need to call for his job- he already lost it weeks ago

They actually showed 32 seconds on the clock as they unpiled… and I don't think it was a sack. I think that was a called QB draw on 2nd and a mile. That play call on second was mistake #1… followed by a medley of buffoonery to run the clock completely out. Horrendous job by the QB and head coach.

Eberflus and the QB defended it after the game. That was Kamala on The View bad. If that coach has a job tomorrow it's a travesty. It's one thing to be incompetent, but next level suckage to double down on it in the presser.
94chem,
That, sir, was the greatest post in the history of TexAgs. I salute you. -- Dough

Apparently Chicago has never fired a coach mid-season. We'll see if that changes now. After he defended the decision, he shouldn't make it back to the chartered jet.

I had expected Bears head coach Matt Ebeflus to call their final timeout to put themselves a position to tie the game at 23 and send the game into overtime. That was complete game management disaster by the head coach and his players. As result, the Bears have lost 6 consecutive games, and 4 of those 6 losses were by 3 points or fewer, including a 30-27 overtime home loss to the Vikings 4 days ago. The Bears are 4-8 because they are 2-7 in games decided by 7 points or fewer.

The OC got the call in to Caleb at 13 seconds. Caleb thought that they didn't have enough time to run another play if the receiver was tackled inbounds (playcall was probably short pass over the middle). So he changed it to one that would go to the end zone.

OC screwed up for calling in the play late.

QB screwed up for not realizing that they had one TO left and 13 seconds is plenty of time to complete a short pass and call TO to set up for a FG.

If Eberflus doesn't getting fired for this debacle, I don't know what will.

If you are the HC and decide that the plan with 30 seconds left is to line up, get the play off by 12 seconds, get 8 yards, and call a TO at less than 5 seconds, but you see that OC/QB aren't getting it called in/lined up fast enough, at what point do you step in and call TO? Once you're under about 16 seconds, calling a TO means there will probably be no way to get a few yards and still have time to spike it, so you're committed to just running the play and hoping you get the yards needed for a FG before time runs out. I don't blame the coach for thinking they were still going to be okay at 20 or even 18 seconds.

Williams not being able to get everyone lined up and ready in a timely manner is to blame, along with him not realizing they had a TO. I suppose putting that on Williams' shoulders by not calling a TO puts the blame on the HC.

HC has to ultimately be responsible for their team, but that was all on Williams. Eberflus knew he wasn't making it out of this season with a job, and didn't want to go out by going off on his QB.

It has always been a pet peeve of mine when NFL (and even college) players get excused for bonehead, situationally ignorant plays; especially QB's. Most rookie QB's have been playing the game & position for 10-12 years at that point and should know what to do.

What no one is talking about was the TO they took to save them a delay penalty. What's more important….having two TO's or saving 5 yards.

It's pretty crazy to me how often teams will do this. Terrible idea, specifically in the 2nd half.

That's true. And if I recall correctly, it was a stopped game clock too, wasn't it?

But since he paints his nails, he'll be the chosen one to save the NFL according to marketing.
