Does he really have THAT great of a resume? Of course the two Super Bowls are what got him there, and there aren't many coaches who can claim that. But outside of that, he only coached 9 NFL seasons in his entire career, 2 of which were below .500 seasons, only 2 division championships and his time in Miami with Dan Marino was pretty forgettable.

Yes. He coached THE GREATEST TEAM EVER as documented by Norm Hitzges.

While it doesn't count for the NFL HOF, his last four years at Miami and his tenure in Dallas ranks as some of the best coaching in football history...As a side note, Jerry sucks. The HOF is forever tarnished with his membership.

Between his coaching career and his 20+ years as part of the best NFL halftime show, yeah, he deserves it.

Gotta get Daryl Johnston in now. One of the best blocking fullbacks of all time (the best as far as I'm concerned). Now has over 15 years in quality broadcasting as well.

No. He wasn't one of the greats either, but he was on TV.

No, he doesn't have that great of resume, and I'm probably one of the oldest Cowboys fans on here. You'll notice your biggest detractor simply told you to shut up and didn't respond otherwise, meaning he can't refute what you're saying.

Maybe his 2 Cowboys SB winning teams were some of the better Cowboys teams of all time but 2 things to keep in mind:

1. He coached, probably by far, the WORST Cowboys team of all time, the 1989 one. His staff had absolutely no idea what they were doing in the NFL that year. Who he had playing for him wasn't necessarily his fault but his incompetence then was.

2. The Hershal Walker trade, and frankly not much more, won him and the Cowboys 2 Super Bowls. You can credit Johnson for the trade if you want, but it was Minnesota's miscalculation and greed, (wrongly) thinking Walker was the answer to their Super Bowl dreams, that led to the trade as much as Johnson's pitch. It takes 2 to agree here.

As far as his studio work having any affect on HOF credentials, dude, that's beyond a laugh.

Exactly. His NFL winning percentage is .556.

Well deserved between coaching and broadcasting. The coaching run was short, but those teams he assembled still go down as some of the best the league has ever seen.

He made the Walker deal, but he also turned those picks into a few HOFers. Lots of teams have stockpiled picks. Few to none did what he did with him.

Don't know about this one:

2 Super Bowl wins, yes. But he only stayed in Dallas for 5 years and 3 playoff appearances. Lombardi, Madden & Walsh all stayed 9-10 years with their teams and had considerably more playoff appearances during years when fewer teams made them.

His stint with the Dolphins was not worthy of the HOF so those years shouldn't count towards his accomplishments.

A winner, yes. But HOFer, no.

Since when did broadcasting careers count towards going to the HOF? Should James Brown or Curt Menefee be inducted?

Bill Cowher is getting in with one super bowl win. Heck bud grant is in the hall of fame.

Beyond this, Jerry Jones looks like an idiot for not letting jimmy in the ring of honor.

It's no so much about winning Super Bowls as it is about sustaining success over a long period of time. Since Jimmy Johnson left the Cowboys after only 5 years, 3 of them being quality, it's hard for me to think of him as a HOFer. By contrast, while Bud Grant never won a Super Bowl, he did have the Vikings in contention for well over a decade. To me, that's more HOF worthy.

Cowher? He did have a 15 year run that was mostly successful, so OK.

Flores was already mentioned. But how about George Seifert? He won 2 Super Bowls and might possibly have had more if he didn't have to compete against JJ's Cowboys.

Jimmy had 5 great years with the Cowboys, because he took a 3-13 team with a Hall of Fame coach and turned it into a dynasty that won 3 of 4 Super Bowls and might have won 4 of 4 if they had Jimmy as head coach instead of Switzer. You don't just snap your fingers and turn that around.

johnson deserves credit for structuring the trade to include conditional draft picks if the included players were cut or traded away, and then cutting or trading them all. he absolutely fleeced them by including this provision and utilizing it.

the bottom line for all of this is that the HOF determined his resume was HOF worthy. nothing else really matters.
