Our office league has had several new members want to play this year, so we're maxed out at 16 teams. 2 of those new members will not be able to participate in the draft so while the rest of us do a live draft, they're autopicking. I've never been commish of a league this big - so that the autodraft teams don't take too many QB's, I've limited QB roster size to only 2 per team, and after the draft I'll up it to 3.

Has anyone ever played in a 16 team league - any helpful rules or scoring to consider, besides ESPN standard?

16 team sucks. You should have people pair up.

Or grab 4 more and do two divisions of 10 and have two drafts going on at once.

two divisions that don't play each other? what's the advantage of that over two separate leagues?

one thing is almost for certain with 16. you are going to have several teams/owners that will lose interest after a few weeks. the talent is too watered down at 16.

i agree on the divide into 2 leagues (or divisions) of 8 (separate drafts so players can be doubled up), have each league play only one another, and then have the 2 champs play one another for the title.

that said, i think it might be hard to find a league where you can set that up? not sure which leagues let you take so many liberties with customization like that.

I have nothing of substance to add, but a 16-team league sounds just turrible.

Yeah, I'm not thrilled about 16 teams. I've also limited rosters to 2 defenses, 2 kickers, and may spin up an IR slot for a QB injury or something.

I played a 14 team last year and it was brutal. If you enjoy picking up and dropping scrubs, do your thing

People will lose interest fast. You should pair people up and make it an 8 team league, or get 4 more and make two 10 team leagues

Has anyone mentioned that 16 team leagues suck? If not, well...they do.

More money and 10 teams means better players on each team, I currently play in one of those. The final game is between the two winners from each division.

Since this discussion Ive actually wondered if there are any leagues the 16 or 20 can be set up where its broken into 2 conferences and the winners of the 2 conferences play one another at the end for the title? In order to protect against a watered down league a player can be doube acquired as long as its in different conferences. Do you or anyone know a league entity that will allow this? Yahoo..ESPN...CBS ETC..?

Yes, the one league I play in that has 20 teams with 2 conferences and two drafts going on at once. The app that is used is called Real Time Fantasy, I am assuming other apps will work.

16 is too many. you need extremely short benches and even then the waiver wire is a joke. the only way this works is with an extremely active league that makes a lot of trades, which a free work league almost certainly won't be.

i'm actually intrigued by the 16-20 team in 2 different conferences and double dipping concept.

i think it has potential to be really awesome but i also think it has the potential to be a colossal failure.

Ugh, a 16 team league is gross. I was unprepared for a draft of that size. I had pick # 12, and did a poor job of guessing who would be available at my next picks (my money league is a 10 team league).

Anyway, here are the results if you're interested to see what a 16 team looks like. My team is the first one, top left. It'll be a rough 4 weeks to open the season. I also had Romo (drafted before the back injury) and have since picked up Dak. There are no good waiver wire pickups.

I played in a 16-team league through TexAgs one time and it was as you mentioned. I won't do that again.

We have a family league that grew to 16 teams, and now we are going to 2 10-team leagues because of reasons mentioned.

We aren't doing two conferences because that just hurts the person who was in the better league, and benefits the chump who was fortunate to play with idiots.

Instead, we are trying this year to go with the soccer relegation model. Top league kept the top 10 teams, and the bottom 6 as determined by score, W-L, and playoff performance are going to the lower league, and adding 4 newbies to this bottom/JV league.

I think after this year, we will trade bottom 4 for top 4, and the bottom league will trade out however many based on new people wanting to join, so if you suck in the lower league, you're out.
