does anyone have some info as it relates to teams that move up vs. down? Based on my memory, which is scary, it seems like teams that stay put and draft value or trade down to stockpile picks have a better track record than teams that have to give away a lot of picks to get "their" guy.

well, teams like NE and Philly tend to trade up and down a lot (mostly down) and they tend to be pretty good year in and year out. purely anecdotal, but I'm sure there's plenty of truth to your hypothesis.

I don't think trading up for "your guy" is all that bad, but it does seem to be a bad deal when "your guy" is a QB. That is too much of a hit or miss position no matter who the prospect is.

The Cowboys have really done well trading down for teams wanting to move up for a QB (JP Lossman and Brady Quinn)... the following years the Cowboys had two first round picks to get DeMarcus Ware / Marcus Spears and Felix Jones / Mike Jenkins... so the Cowboys definitely got the better deal in those scenarios... but they also had to wait an entire year to reap those rewards.

You don't trade up for a QB, WR, or Pass Rusher because those guys are so hit or miss. I can definitely see the value in trading up for 1st round talent in other positions because most of the other positions are more sure things in the 1st.

I think it's what you do with your guy. Some teams are money no matter what they do, and some teams suck no matter what they do.
