Howdy,

My company is looking for a kid fresh out of A&M to join me on staff in our engineering department. My firm insures large multifamily projects across the country. This role is aimed at civil/structural/geotechnical engineers. You would be working under me in the Austin area. The main job duties involve risk analysis in reviewing geotechnical engineering reports, structural foundation plans, project schedules, etc. This is not a design role, however, i am a licensed PE, so can still have the opportunity to obtain that. This is a very niche job opportunity that i didn't know existed when i graduated. Could start as soon as possible. I'd be more than happy to answer any questions here or offline.

Thanks and Gig'em

Reach out to an adviser in the TAMU civil department. I used to email Dr Lowery, but I believe he has passed

He has passed unfortunately. I had him as a prof as well as both of my uncles. Good guy. I'll see what the advisor has to say. Thanks.

That's sad to hear. Dr. Lowery was a great man.

He was awesome. Held Sunday afternoon structures group tutorials for my class (which was taught by the other prof).

Dr Ray James took me into the Dept, and I believe that he passed before Dr Lowery

As a redneck, I don't know that I would be an Aggie CE without Dr James

Years after I graduated, I sent an email to a friend (also named Lowery) saying I was going to be in town and "wanted to meet up to play pickup basketball and get some margaritas after". Turns out I accidentally emailed that to Dr. Lowery.

He replied back saying his knees wouldn't let him play basketball anymore, but if I'm buying margarita pitchers he will definitely show up. Got a good laugh out of that, he was a good dude.

Also, as someone who works on the claims side of the insurance market (forensic engineering), I've heard good things about working on the underwriting/risk management side. I'd definitely recommend it as a career path for an engineer who isn't dead set on doing design work. Some would argue it's a much better lifestyle than being a design consultant.
