Most important - the job ends when the bond funds are spent. Generally 3 to 5 years.

Reasonable working hours. 240 work calendar. Not as much money as commercial construction but I go home most days at 4:30. Summers are 6-7 days a week for 9 weeks.

Teacher Retirement System. You don't pay into social security.

My old man did this for 3 different ISDs in Waco from about 2002-2013.

He just turned 87 last weekend. I could put you in touch with him.

From my memory, his biggest complaints were:

Scrutiny because he was the 2nd highest paid non-coach in the district.
Nobody understood what he did and why it mattered. People just think construction is magic.
