$89k was the average last year. A Google search for "Texas A&M salary survey" will show you.

Shows starting pay for every degree from A&M by semester. HIgh Pay, Low Pay, Mean Pay, etc

Also, shows what companies are hiring which degrees and their positions.

Looks like working for TAMU is really pulling down the average salary ranges.

Lets look at something like a Software Applications Developer I

TAMU Pay Scale:
https://employees.tamu.edu/compensation/career-ladders/information-technology.html
Pay scale 68

Pay Grade Info:
https://employees.tamu.edu/compensation/_media/documents/swpp-pay-grades-tamu.pdf
Pay scale 68 = Starting at $46k

Searchable Salary Info:
https://openpayrolls.com/university-college/texas-am-university/2022-applications-developer
Looks like the actual salaries are all quite a bit lower than the pay grade listed above, most in the $30k range.

What's so great about A&M that someone will make 1/3 of the private sector?

I used to work for A&M, full time IT job. While I wasn't some aggressive candidate who only worked for the best, but it was a chill 8-5 job with occasional after hours work. No real competition with others, or worrying about layoffs. Plenty of days off and good insurance.
