If you're a civil engineering student and looking for an out of the box summer internship that will get you noticed then I have the perfect fit your you! I got my start in Bridge Engineering during the summer of 2004 at this very same position and it got my foot in the door to multiple highly regarded private bridge engineering firms. However, I loved my summer internship so much that I came back to Alaska 8 years ago. Since my time as an intern there was an "Alaska intern resident policy" but we've now changed to open the applicant pool nationwide.
As an intern with our Bridge Section (Juneau, AK) you'd get hands on engineering experience learning bridge code (AASHTO) and performing entry level structural engineering calculations. But the best part is that during the summer we travel across the whole State performing bridge inspections. We can be anywhere from the major cities (Juneau, Anchorage, & Fairbanks) or on bush plans heading to remote villages. I've flown over glaciers, bears, & whales during my daily work travels.
While not working you can live and play in Juneau and have access to world class hiking, fishing, boating, kayaking, whale watching, etc. Towards the end of summer as the nights get a little longer you have the potential to catch a glimpse of the norther lights too.
This is an excellent opportunity, please post if you have any questions or contact me directly.
