Howdy Aggies,
I have been in oil/gas sales for five years and have Petroleum Engineering Degree from Texas A & M and an MBA fro UHV. I really would like to switch to medical Device Sales position and was hoping Aggies Fellows could give me some advice and hopefully could help me out.....
I know it is a tough business to get into and just needed to see anyone could kindly help.

Thanks a bunch

I did his for 7 years and hated every second of it. I sold medical devices for a period of time and electronic medical record software. The money was fantastic 200k to 300+k but. the days of making 70 or 80 colds calls, extremely high pressure applied by management and the complete beat down of the industry wore me down. I lost years off my life due to the stress. Some sectors aren't so bad like consumables, but if it is a "Hunter" role life will be miserable. Keep in mind many of these people come from "capital equipment" read copier sales. While selling bone density machines and ultrasound machines I was literally knocking on doors in doctors offices. Watch the movie the Pursuit of Happyness" with Will Smith. It is not much different than that unless you are selling repeat business like surgical implants or consumables.

im in device sales both capital equipment and implant sales...my experience has been the opposite as what was posted above. ive never made a cold call in my position yet... something that was important to me was making sure that whatever i sold was the market leader in the category. normally the market leader in the category is well known and if you do have to make a cold call they atleast know about your product and know the reputation of your company.

the money can be good and work life balance can be good

feel free to email any questions you have.
