There's about 50 people working at my facility and Halliburton is laying off 7 of us. Manager said I wasn't on the list and to go up to my cubicle and hide.

Sorry to hear that. FMC just went through a RIF. I am lucky to still have a job, but I feel for those who got let go.

I know there are job listings, but I feel like applying for jobs online is roughly analogous to walking outside my house and screaming "I NEED A JOB!!!!" to the unfeeling, uncaring natural hellscape of my unemployed urban existence..

Entire Fairfield yard was closed this morning. Couple transferred out to another camp, but everyone else was laid off.

They supposedly said our layoffs last Monday would be the end of them for the year in SA, but we all know if oil prices don't pick back up that won't be the case.

You are correct, just firing off resumes you see to online postings have a very small chance of working. You need to be in contact with anyone you know in a similar position to one you would like. If you see something online, find someone you know at the company to submit your resume (preferably, someone with a somewhat related job).

I've been searching for about 7 months myself, but I wasn't actually let go until Monday. Time to work every network I can think of. Meanwhile I plan to pass a lot of the time by stepping up my volunteer hours, off to fish fry!

Depending on rig counts, the next round of layoff's will be mid March to finish off the 1st quarter.
