How long do you want to ignore this user?
I start my new job with Halliburton soon and was hoping someone could give me some insight on what to expect during the orientation (I believe they said 10 days). I'm supposed to get some info in the upcoming days but would really like to hear from someone who has gone through it recently and could speak from experience. Hours, housing accommodation, dress code, any materials I may need... Those type of things.

TIA

I can only speak of the NEO in Odessa.

Dress nice. Jean's and Polo at a minimum.
You'll get a pair of boots the 1st day. Gonna be lace ups. I don't recommend the pairs with the metatarsal flap (you'll understand which ones when you see them). Take some leather/boot conditioner to help with the leather brake in. If you go to Odessa, start wearing those boots to training the next day.
Go clean shaved. If you show up, and Merle sees you unshaven, he'll make you dry shave on the spot.
Basically, it's all safety training. The quizzes/tests are made for a middle school comprehension level. Don't think to hard.
Lunch was provided to us onsite. We were given a $12 voucher to McAllister. Breakfast is on your own.
Being early is being on time.
They put us up in a hotel (we got the Fundome), which was pretty nice. Had a bar with cheap happy hour. Free breakfast. Pretty decent rooms. I got lucky and didn't have a roommate.
For me, the room was technically booked for a month, but I only used it for 8 days. I'm mwd, but the others were pretty much on the cement side, a few mud engineers and some lab techs also.

If you are going to Odessa, and will be working out there, I suggest taking what clothing you may need for work. FRC's and other safety gear will be provided. I would definitely take some warm clothes to wear underneath your FRC, at least until you some insulated frc.

Where are you going? Odessa? Elmendorf? What PSL are you in?

Basically it's just some new employee boilerplate stuff and your safe land/PEC training. It's mind-numbing and terrible and mostly pointless death by powerpoint. Nothing too intense but be prepared for some long days.

Our first day we showed up at 0700 and didn't leave until 2100. And you may not have a choice about the metatarsal protection boots, I think that's the direction we're headed in. If you can get the ones with the ratchet lace system then do that, especially if you plan to have them on and off a lot during a tour.

Take note of the important financial info regarding 401k, ESPP etc.

First week for me was 6am-6pm. It's pretty important information and seems boring but if you ever work overseas you'll understand the importance of new employee orientations.

Good luck dude.

Everyone here is spot on. I'm in elmendorf, the boot thing is absolutely spot on (I didn't like the ratchet-click ones and went with the 10" lace ups).Food was good and lots to take in but it's all worth it. You'll be a red hat soon enough.

I will be out of Elmendorf. I applied and interviewed in Completion tools, but my offer says Service Tools. When I asked a guy that also works for Halliburton he said they were the same thing as far as he knew. I don't know if that's completely correct.

The service tools/completion tools dilemma can be solved very easy---->Are you going to be a specialist or a assoc. tech professional?

The position listed on the offer letter says "TSO3-ESG- Svs Operator I"

You're in a sub PSL of CT. Nothing to worry about, it's actually the norm.
Good luck

What tools are you going to run? Liners, liner hangers, etc or plugs/packers?

Always thought some of the descriptions for the HAL Service Tools/Completion Tools gigs were pretty vague.
KVB07

Packers and plugs were specifically mentioned to me.

You will probably run plugs 98 percent of the time. As for liners hangers I know the Midcon hires starting at a SS 1 level. Considering the difference in knowledge base and responsibilities between plugs and hangers it is probably the same down there.

Plugs is a great place to start, good gig. Be proactive about learning when you get in the field.

Agree with MVB, great place to start. Be willing to learn the open hole tools anytime you're granted the opportunity. Good luck to you.

Will do, thanks for the advice.

Yes, never be late especially when starting. Seriously, DONT BE LATE, it's huge around here. Also, always be clean shaven---the two guys at this yard (Patrick and Enrique) will make you shave on the spot if you're not already. Ask questions, and don't be the guy that just stands around, work and get noticed quickly.

Day 1 down! Overall not too bad, pretty much death by PowerPoint. I think we have a little more of that tomorrow then to the college to do some schooling. Got my boots on and conditioned so I can break the in a little.

Can anyone give me a little insight on rig up day?

Thanks.

I would give advice for rig up day. But the best way to experience what's going to happen, is to just find out that day.

And I know that everyone here who at least went to the Odessa neo with Merle, is part of his long running stat.

Rig up day: stand out from the others by taking charge of your "crew"---give directions and don't be afraid to get dirty. Seriously, you'll take a shower and wash clothes later. Ask questions!!!!!!

1. Hit the wingnut on the tips.
2. Single chicksans weigh 60lbs, doubles weigh 120. Be a man and carry them by yourself.
3. Swing the hammer LIKE A MAN. Hands positioned together like your swinging a bat.

Do these things and you'll be way ahead of the lesser green hats, trust me.

When breaking connections, orient yourself correctly so that you know you're hammering the connection the right way...otherwise you'll soon hear the "you gonna tighten it all damn day?" etc.

Don't get in a hurry. While making up iron, slow is smooth and smooth is fast. Make sure you know where the writing is on the wingnut before you start swinging. Looking at the writing its loose to the left. Don't bother trying to carry more than 60 lbs while training, it's against policy and you'll probably do more harm than good.

You don't really get dirty on rig day unless you decide to roll around on the ground for the hell of it.

Be a good team player

congrats KVB07. Halliburton is a solid company. What kind of degree got you a foot in the door?

Congrats on the job buddy! I just got hired in tools in one of PA's facilities. It's a great place to be, and I'm going for rig training soon which you should go to too. It will be either in Texas or the Mississippi

Rig up day was no sweat. The hardest part was standing for so long before actually getting your hands on something. There was a lot to take in, so when it came time to actually work with the iron I really made myself slow down and think about everything they wanted to see out of us. The instructors were pretty cool, and team work/communication were emphasized big time.

Always gig em- I don't know if your suggestion of carrying the some of the heavier iron (double chicksans) by myself was in jest or not, but if I had tried to do that the instructors who have been on me like a duck on a junebug. No way they would have let anyone get away with lifting anything over 60 lbs by yourself. But your advice on swinging the hammer was legit, they made a point that the iron doesn't have feelings, to him it like you mean it, but safely
.
PJK85- I don't have a degree that specifically made me a better candidate (I have Animal Science andAg Science), but I happen to know a guy that could get me in contact with the right guy, and it worked out but was a slow process.

Musabz- now that I'm done with NEO I go into the shop for at least a month working on and learning tools that I'll be using. Then I will go out to the field for a few months and be with other Tool Men until I break out.

I hate being the new guy and knowing less than everyone else, but I'm excited to really get started and try to catch up. I have a huge fear of being the weak link, so that is a huge motivation right now.

Cool! I suppose if you were talking about Meat Science during Rig Up Day you would have gotten some strange looks.

Congrats on the new job.

It's all about safety now (except for the hours your work). Don't strain yourself dude. If you can't lift it, don't. Use a crane or do a team lift. That "be a man" **** will get you hurt.

Congrats kvb, you'll love working here. Yes my comment on the double chicks were sort of in jest. I work in frac and yes sometimes you will pick this stuff up by yourself (it's the oilfield and stuff just runs out here like that sometimes, even in the halliburton world).

The poster above is correct though, by all means don't hurt yourself. It's just iron and if you can't you can't. Seriously, congratulations.

Hello, my name is Randall & I have recently gotten on board with Halliburton as a PF01-ESG-Operator Assistant Frac Acid in The Williston ND Division. I have a question regarding NEO, if can't attend on start day due to relocation problems, will my position be filled or how does that work
aggie4231
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Couldn't tell you. Mine was delayed because the previous employment checkers are morons, and I had to get a note from my Dr for my diabetes. The delay sucked, because I quit my job for a certain start date, but ended up with 2 weeks off. That and I was basically given 1.5 days notice when to show up, and Odessa is a 8-9 hr drive.

Should of talked with the person who sent your NEO info email and all of the new-hire paperwork. Now that its the weekend, there is nobody for you to really call.

Best advice is to call 1st thing in the morning and send email. Keep trying to contact them until you get your answer. If you have to, make it work and get up there and worry about relocation afterwards (talk with your Supervisor after you start NEO). Also, see if you have family friends that you trust to help pack your stuff. If you have to, get a storage unit and then come get your stuff at a latter time. You want to start working and making that $$$ sooner than latter.

You most likely won't lose the job.

After hearing how you received your start day information so late etc which is the same exact boat I was left in but after hearing ur advice I'm going to work 2 weeks here in Texas, round up money for a flight then take off up there! I will have this done in no time, offer should be still good right?

I have emailed my manager notifying him why I wasn't able to make it to NEO, I really don't want to get thrown out behind this

Best of luck in Williston. Unfortunately, they probably need people quickly which is why they may be a bit behind the 8 ball. Work hard and save your money.
