What are y'alls thoughts on listing Corps of Cadets experience on a resume?

I'm no resume expert, but why wouldn't you list it? Great leadership experience.

I agree. I just wanted to see what others thought about it.

Definitely list it. Especially if you're just starting out.

I just took a look at my own resume (Class of '92) and I noticed I don't list the Corps but I do list the Fightin' Texas Aggie Band.
I'm pretty sure that I used to list the Corps of Cadets.
Now I just list my Army experience instead of the Corps of Cadets.

I need to reduce as many lines as possible from my resume these days while still keeping all the computer searchable keywords in there.

I still list it and I'm c/o 03 as well.

as c/o 03 i let my collegiate leadership fall off my resume as my work experience grew.. it should not be as prominent for someone c/o 03 as it may be on a c/o 14 resume.. for someone 5-10 years out, I think a single bullet at most to make the connection with other corps alum.. i wasn't in the corps but i would also make the same recommendation for someone that was the SBP 5-10 years ago.

I list mine as leadership/management experience because I was a CO. If I had not been a CO or in some other significant management role, I probably would not list it.

Definitely list. If I were a hiring manager, that would stand out if I saw it.

Dumb not to list it regardless of what leadership role you played. Everyone has a position and it is easy to sell a company on the importance of your role in that position and how it will benefit you/ them down the road.

As someone that has worked in corporate and executive search/recruiting for multiple industries, i would say my general rule of thumb would be:

If within 5 to 7 years of graduating, or you know that the hiring manager is an Ag/fomer CT or BQ, AND you were in a leadership role, then absolutely put it. Looks great. If you werent in said leadership role, i would advise putting your Corps experience ONLY on your first resume after school, after that, leave it off.

If 5-7 years after graduating, or you did not have the leadership role, or you are unsure if the hiring manager is an Ag, then leave it off. No unbiased hiring manager is going to care what extracurricular activity you were apart off, regardless of what it was. C.O. of an outfit/President of your Fraternity/Vice President of ABC society or club, it makes no difference. If you are still trying to get a leg up on a job interview 5+ years AFTER college by using things you did in college, then perhaps you should get better experience or write a better resume.

as i write that, it comes across very dick-ish. but after looking at resumes for the better part of the last 10 years, i would say that one of my biggest pet peeves, was seeing a 15 year professional, still putting college leadership experience on his resume. Even as an Ag, it would have no bearing on your candidacy.

I tend to agree with hummingbird. Keep in mind your audience, what are the chances that the people reviewing your resume were in the Corps? Probably pretty low. College leadership stuff is great for new grads, but beyond that it quickly becomes irrelevant.

There's a whole lot of people out there who couldn't care less about the Corps and even consider it to be a joke. I'm not trying to bash anyone, so please don't get offended. Just my $.02

Leadership skills in short supply. Anyone who says otherwise hasn't been in a leadership role trying to grow leaders. You should communicate to prospective employers what training you've received that matters. That doesn't mean to list every training experience, but let them know what you've done and what you like to do. Good luck.

Agree with Birddog. It would depend on who your audience is. Also, once you get past 30yrs old or so, I wouldn't include it if you have the job experience to replace it.
