I'm a former Marine who is making a pretty big jump and leaving my current job to attend DFE Tech to get a mud engineering certification. My greatest concern is investing time and money into this and not being able to receive a job due to no experience in the field. Any advice or words of reassurance from anyone else who has pursued this route?

most Drilling Fluid/Mud Engineering companies send their new employees through their own drilling fluid school or something comparable. It will be difficult to obtain a mud engineering position, a lot of it is knowing someone in a particular company to get you in. However your certificate may help you out finding a mud engineer position.

I agree with Bass Ag, unless you know someone your best bet might be just showing up at a field office for a mud engineering company every day until they hire you. I wouldn't expect much from going through any online applications.

Most guys I know got started with a big company like Halliburton and went to mud school. I think it is 10 weeks and doesn't pay much at first. See what the have open.
You can also try Allied Drilling Fluids or Nupark. Allied is off I-37 around George West. I think the Manager there is James.

Thank you all for the advise, I'm seeking out companies now that will hire then send you to mud school. Though as I fear not knowing anyone within any of these companies will most definitely bring down my chances of getting in I'm gonna do what I can!
