How long do you want to ignore this user?
Good Afternoon,

I am currently a PETE major graduating in May and have an interview for this position in a couple of weeks. I also have an interview with Schlumberger as a field engineer (which I think I am currently leaning towards). My question is: What exactly is or does a Tech Professional in this division do? I believe I saw somewhere it said formation evaluation, so I would assume it would be dealing with interpreting well logs, core data, and seismic among other data. If this is the case, is it primarily an office job? Does anyone know what the work hours are like for this position? Any advice would be great! I know a lot about field engineering so I am currently leaning that way, but this other job seems intriguing.

Thanks!

Tech Professional is the internal title for engineers. Halliburton doesn't like to use the word "engineer" unless someone has a PE (legal reasons maybe).

So the field guys are tech profs and the guys designing tools are tech profs and a lot of the jobs in between are tech profs. Formation Evaluation is a fairly broad term too. I'be heard it both in drilling and production enhancement.

If you have a req number, I might be able to figure out more.

I do not have that number. I do know that there were two different posts from Halliburton: Field Engineer and Tech Professional. Both were different and I applied to both of them separately. I have not heard back about the field engineering job, only the tech professional one. Not sure if this helps.

Ive never heard of formation evaluation, are you sure it wasn't production enhancement? Halliburton only has abut 5 psl's that they hire new engineers for and formation evaluation is not one of them. Formation evaluation would seem like something for the operator to do and if the service company would get involved it would be frac or cement.

Here is the link to FRS which is the division I could work in if I got the job: http://www.halliburton.com/en-US/ps/wireline-perforating/wireline-and-perforating/reservoir-analysis.page?node-id=hfqelaea

Wireline. You would just be a wireline engineer in training. As a broke out engineer you can make some good bucks off bonus. In training expect to make 60k

Lot of misinformation on this thread. Technical Professionals are regular office based jobs. To get one of these jobs you usually have to start in the field and work your way up. A field engineering job will usually say field in the title, like Field Service Rep.

Formation evaluation, aka petrophysics, is the science/art of determining rock properties. You would spend alot of time looking at logs, core data, etc. Petrophysicists are usually geologists, but engineers do it too.

All the big service companies that provide logging services have skilled Petrophysicists on staff. They ensure quality control, consult for clients, and help design tools.

This is the type of stuff that HAL's FRS group does. The work itself is more akin to what operators do. It sounds like that is the job you applied for. If so, you should take it before a field engineering job, especially if you want to work for an operator someday. I'm a little surprised they would be interested in hiring someone without experience, but stranger things have happened.

Bird Dog is correct - this is not a field position but is more akin to a consultant/petrophysics type position and is likely the Tech Prof II role. FRS is a new-ish sub-product service line within Wireline. No job bonus, almost completely office based with visits to clients' office sites to provide consultative services.

Our Technical Professionals started as associate tech profs and are nothing more than field engineers. Field enginee=tech prof. out here in the Permian.

Another thing to note is IDC if you have a 4.0 in petroleum at a&m, Halliburton is not going to hire you in a role like this without some field experience.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
More than likey this is for associate technical professional. You will then be able to give a breakout and become a tech prof. Ive never heard of hiring TP's straight out of school
KT_Ag08
How long do you want to ignore this user?
You are incorrect. FRS along with DES are consulting type businesses at the company. The Tech Prof I and II roles for FRS and DES target high performing/high potential graduates out of school to come in and contribute in office based, consulting type environment for formation, reservoir, and drilling engineering. The job progression is much different than ATP, TP, STP, PTP and the job itself is completely different.

Students get hired out of school all the time to go work for big consulting companies. Their model is to get you on a plane, in a client's face, and billing hours to make money ASAP. This is a little different and I get your point but these folks will be developed and mentored by guys and girls with decades of experience in the industry.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
I was just going along with the generalization. I'm sure all of the major service companies know what they're doing.
KT_Ag08
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Not disagreeing at all. We throw people out in the field all the time that aren't ready. On the consulting side though I think they have this planned out a bit more.

Not at all meaning to hijack the thread, but I am a current Halliburton frac employee and was wondering if either KT or Bird Dog would mind if I either pm them or email a few questions. Again, I apologize for being off subject.

Howdy,

Halliburton is interviewing for this position again next week, and I was just checking to see if anybody has any additional information. I've spent quite a bit of time looking online and haven't been able to find much other than what is in the initial job posting.

Additionally, if anybody has suggestions or insight regarding the typical Halliburton interviewing experience, that would be greatly appreciated as well.

Hope things have worked out well for you, brenlove.
