How long do you want to ignore this user?
After a series of on-campus interviews and phone interviews, Chevron called me this morning wanting to set up an on site interview. It took over 6 months to even get to this point and I'm extremely excited about the possibilities. The position would be for a facilities engineer and I was curious if there were any of you that would disclose any info about working there and what to expect.

What is the interview going to be like? What is the corporate culture like? What should I expect during/after the interview?

Thanks!

A relative of mine works there - nothing but good things to say about them. Sorry I can't offer more insight than that.

A friend of mine under went the Chevron interview process recently but for a structural engineering position.

The first interview is a phone interview. The second is another phone interview with a different person and the final interview is a presentation in front of a panel of 5 people.

He said it was a long process. He was happy he made it to the final 5 but was crushed he didn't get the job.

Good luck and it's a very competitive process.

Great HS friend & college roommate was a PETE major. Guy is very bright.

Took job out of college with Chevron and is still with them. They work his ass off. Just as he was settling in and bought a house in Houston, they moved him to middle of nowhere New Mexico, & he just got moved again to somewhere 45 minutes North of New Orleans.

He does well financially, and Chevron is a great company, but he has missed out on life over the last 3.5 years.

Saw him at a bachelor party about 2 months ago, and the living away from everyone in rural areas is starting to get to him. His concern is that if he died in a car wreck today that the only thing people could say about him was that he was a hard working, cause that's all he's done since graduating.

My dad works as a facilities engineer for Chevron and does rotation work overseas. PM me your email address and I'll send him a note saying you have questions.

Your friend is just experiencing what pretty much every engineer/operations guy goes through when breaking into the O&G industry. It seems like so many people just become enamored with the idea of working in O&G that they forget or neglect the fact that it is actually really tough and demanding work.

I work for Chevron in California as a petroleum engineer. Do you know where the position will be? Chevron is very different across the US.

Why isn't your friend living on the south shore in NOLA? Seems crazy since he would always be going against traffic.

To the OP, if you can get the job, take it. That other guy is doing it wrong. Chevron is a great company, and you will be able to do a couple jobs early, find out what you like, all the while still accruing benefits.

My Dad works for Chevron in Houston as an engineer, and they have been very good to our family. Only 1 month after he started it was discovered he had a brain tumor. After surgery and recovery, 2.5 months later, he was welcomed back and they have been nothing but helpful throughout the whole process. There were stipulations that having to dip into long-term disability for awhile they could have replaced him and didn't. If I ever get a chance to work there (Finance side) I wouldn't think twice due to my experiences with them through my Dad and how highly he speaks of them.

I just got the call that I'm scheduled to fly up to Houston this Monday and Tuesday for interviews. This is literally my dream job and I am EXTREMELY excited about it!

What should I expect from these interviews? I know they are big on behavioral interviewing - should I expect more of the same?

Thanks for all the help and tips!

Probably all behavioral but really depends on if the HR folks are interviewing you or the engineers. I wouldnt be too worried about it but be ready to ask questions to them. And dont let them put you into SJVBU. Chevron is excellent so good luck.

I recruit on 100% Chevron positions, the vast majority of which are out of Houston. Drop me a line, KStruzick at fircroft dotcom. I'd be curious to know who your interviewers are, and I could likely provide some useful insight to some of your questions about the culture.

TKE - I'm recruiting for Chevron in house now - congrats on the interview. I'll drop you an email tomorrow.

If you are coming to Houston after a phone screen there normally isn't another step. But that all depends on the group, hiring manager/team, etc. Depending on how many folks are interviewing & what number you are in the process dictates how quickly you will hear back.

A lot of folks who end up having 3 interviews are in our Energy Technology group, or will be required to present as a large part of their job.

Word of advice for you & anybody else applying/interviewing/onboarding with us - patience is a virtue.

In addition - not all of our interviews are behavioral based. Each manager is allowed to interview/ask whatever questions within legal limits they so choose.

Believe me when I say that Chevron is EXTREMELY concerned about safety. Can't/won't say anything else about safety besides that.

This is very true. My friends dad worked there for 20 years. He retired as soon as he could. Has a ton of money but not much else. Hard to make friends/ put down roots when you're working 24/7.

BKAG9824,

I'm a supply chain management professional that is trying to move to the O&G industry in Houston. I have worked the last 8 years for Texas Instruments in Stafford. They are closing our plant and I have chose to not relocate to Dallas. I've applied for a position at Chevron that I would like to talk to you about. Can you email me? davidamosjones at yahoo dot com

Thanks
