TJ, when I was looking for land jobs I used www.landpro.com/landnews.asp as a site I hit up at least once a week. As well, I'd check www.landmen.net and go to the HAPL meetings to network.

A friend of mine got his position with TS Dudley through Energy Force, which is a training class. It cost like $800, but at the end of it they'll place you with a company. I took it as well, but had already landed my job with Cinco Energy Services. The class is extremely dumbed down, and I wouldn't recommend it unless all of your connections and options come up with no jobs.

If you're willing to go to Appalachia, I believe we're hiring new guys as well as experienced landmen. You can check that out here: http://www.cincoland.com/employment/contractor. I hope this info helps. I'm working in Montana right now so I don't have any idea as to the status of any of the jobs listed on there. Good luck to you! It's a fun gig!

Landmen.net is a good place to find openings.

From my experience, its tough to find a place that doesn't require previous landman work. It is possible, as I've had a few interviews, but you'll be going up against veteran landmen, which makes it competitive.

Along with job postings, Landmen.net has a directory of brokers-in Texas as well as other states-with contact information. Try giving them a call and see if they could use some help.

Best of luck.

kneisley10,

Please email me; I'd like to apply for an Appalachia position and would appreciate some insight from a current landman before I submit.

I've been a landman for 6 years now since I graduated and it's OK. I was a finance major and am currently getting my MBA to find another job. I like working with numbers a little more and most land work (except leasing) is alot of reading and legal type work. I really don't find it that fulfilling hence the reason I want to change. I'm much more of a math guy than reading or people person.

That being said its not bad at all. I worked all
over the place in Texas and met some fun people. We would play golf or had softball teams after work everyday. It sort of sucks traveling every week, but at the same time I enjoyed it looking back on it, it was almost like a little vacation every week getting out of the house.

I am currently still working with me same company, working on mostly curative stuff from home which is a major change from going to the courthouse.

It's not for everyone. I love the energy industry, I just don't think land is the way I want to go. But there are about 10000x worse jobs I can think of.

If you have any more questions let me know and I will be happy to answer them
