Alright I've been putting off this curriculum requirement for too long. As all the CE's know, we have to take either Principles of Electrical Engr or Principles of Thermodynamics. But the question is which do I want to take?

I rarely - okay never - ask questions such as this on TexAgs. Usually I ask classmates or advisers, but today both have been dicey. I have no preference nor aptitude for either option. So I ask ye, oh CE's of TexAgs, which course is more relevant or at least less ridiculous?

i was a civil for a while...i enjoyed the thermo class. if it wasn't for the final which i didn't study for at all, i would have gotten an A. It sucks when the one class you thought was a sure A turns out being your only non-A class of the semester.

I don't know anybody who has taken the electrical class. I think physics 208 is responsible for that. Thermo isn't that bad of a class.

When I was in school I had to take both, or at least for some reason I did. I definatley liked Thermodynamics better. Neither one is relavent to the major, imo. But I hated the other class. There is my two cents.

thermo...thermo...thermo!

first of all a chunk of it is basic fluids stuff. over all, it really isn't that bad of a course.

the electrical course is differential equations plus all the circuit stuff from 208.

thermo, electrical blows

I took 215. Don't take it unless you really loved 208.

Yeah, most people say that 215 Electrical for Non-Electricals is a crappy course. (Also the profs arent so good either) As an electrical I took 3 courses that covers the topics that are glossed over in that overview of electrical. But again, if you didnt love the math and particularly complex numbers of 208, I suggest you dont take that and take a thermo course that might apply more to what a Civil is going to do.

funny thing is I enjoyed 208....and 215 was still a pain. it's stuff you will never use.

I absolutely hated physics 208, but I think that is primarily because of the prof I had. That being said I actually almost enjoyed 215. Take whichever one interests you more.

For what it is worth, I liked Electrical a lot better than Thermo...but I took thermo as an immature sophomore and electrical as a senior...maybe I had just matured and realized studying helped..all in all I found electrical a lot more interesting...

It is absolutely ridiculous that this thread is still on the Academic Board. If I could kill it (like scw0530 does a bottle of Maker's Mark) I would.

Went with Thermo for what it's worth. Thanks for all who posted opinions.

I am in ELEN 215 right now...it sucks. I wish I had taken thermo.

Thermo doesn't have a lab. Electrical has a lab once a week, and you spend a lot of time on the prelab/report. The TA grades pretty tough on it.

I wish I had taken thermo instead.

Electrical sucks. Take thermo.

Unfortunately I took both before I switched to civil. Those two classes accounted for 2 of my 3 C's in college.
They both suck, but Thermo would be better with the right prof.

Pick your poison. They both suck. I took Thermo and Q-dropped the first time and came back and made a B. It was the only Q-drop I ever had at A&M. Phys 208 scarred me away from anymore circuits and on the FE exam I put down "B" for all my answers and still passed that test. Good Luck!
