I was browsing TexAgs and stumbled across some threads discussing Avant Garde College Prep. As I read through them, I realized just how much has changed since my time at A&M. It's gotten significantly harder to get in, especially if your kiddo is at a super competitive high school.
My daughter has straight A's, plenty of AP classes/ honors coursework,, but she's not in the top 10% of her class at our extremely competitive high school. Honestly, I always assumed she'd have no problem getting into A&M, but after doing some digging, it became clear she wasn't a "sure thing."
That's when we decided to get Robb from Avant Garde to work with her on her essay. He and his team provided some great suggestions and helped guide her through a process that allowed her to highlight her accomplishments more effectively. The final essay? A night-and-day improvement. It still incorporated her own ideas, but in a more polished and impactful way.
After the essay, we decided to tackle the SAT. My daughter hadn't done any formal SAT prep before, and after discussion with Robb we felt that a month of prep and a final attempt at increasing her SAT could be of benefit. After looking at her previous scores and the specific areas where she scored lower, Robb and his team conducted about 15 one-on-one sessions with her. She ended up increasing her score by 150 points in that short time. Pretty incredible, considering the limited prep window!
I wanted to share our experience because it really paid off. Not only did my daughter get into A&M (whoop!), but thanks to Robb's help, she now has scores that put her in the upper quartile for tu as wellso I'm bracing for those acceptance letters too. Maybe Robb did too good of a job? Ha.
If you're a parent with high school students, I'd highly recommend taking a closer look at the admission requirements for their target schools to see where they stand. And if they need a boost, Robb and his team at Avant Garde are worth checking out. We're so thankful for their help, and we're thrilled to have another Aggie in the family!
