Do they let you know that there is a $1,000 rebate on tuition if you graduate within 4 years at basically any State School.

I have talked to a few people who had no idea about the program.

Here is the info for A&M:

I did this back in 2003. I was a young, married student paying my own way so getting this was on my radar from the beginning.

I was able to get the $1000, but I had to appeal to get it. My degree plan required me to take almost 160 hours (which they reduced by about 30 hours shortly after I graduated ). When they saw my hours, they automatically denied it. I had to show my original plan signed by my freshman advisor as well as several other documents from my college. Hopefully, they now have a better system to track degree requirements along with the fact that many degrees have been revised to be more easily done in 4 years.

All of this to say that if you want to get it, you have to pick a major, stick to it, and only take those classes.

I knew about it and planned for it but still got denied since I took a dual credit class in high school back in 1996 (graduated high school in '98). One of the rules is that you couldn't have started college before fall of 1997. I remember being pissed on that technicality since the whole point of the program is to get students to graduate on time and not bounce around trying to figure out your major but because I took a dual credit class as a sophomore in high school I didn't get the rebate. I didn't know that you could appeal as I probably should have tried that as I might have been successful.

My daughter graduated in 2011. In her four years at A&M, she earned 2 majors and with dual credits from high school she didn't qualify for the rebate even though she only did 8 seminars and didn't drag it out. I thought the whole purpose was to do your time and get out.
