I have a HS Junior. We are looking at A&M (will likely be auto admit) but he is interested in liberal arts so A&M may not be the best fit. I was a poli sci major but I am class of '98 so things have obviously changed since I was there. Curios if anyone has any recent experience with liberal arts programs at A&M. I know this is a broad question but A&M is primarily known for engineering and business and liberal arts doesn't get much play in information about the school. So I'm curious how strong the programs are and what the student experience is like now.

Encourage them to go to law school.
Anyone who chooses to ride a bicycle in the street is a threat to themselves, and others. If a vehicle strikes you accidentally, YOU are at fault; and the laws of physics supercede all else when you're in the path of a 2 ton killing machine. Know your place, stay off the road.

Not my area of expertise but my sister got her BA, masters, and Phd in psychology from A&M and she is in extremely high demand and turns away tons of work / opportunities. Too many mental issues these days unfortunately. I'm assuming psychology is a liberal arts major but have no clue.

Which major? Political science and international studies are now in the Bush School. The Bush School is also looking to add a bachelors in public service in the near future.

My daughter is international studies at the Bush school and is a senior. Her area of study is Chinese and her frustration is there are very few china courses to study, mostly middke east. Also all the Chinese study abroad is still being pushed to other countries. She had to do he study abroad in Thailand. It is very political and with her dad serving in the middle east the past 20 years she holds her tongue sometimes.
She wants to be aggie more than anything so other schools weren't an option. She enjoyed her time and is glad it is almost over.

What do you mean by "liberal arts?" That's a pretty wide swath of subjects.

If he's really interested in TAMU, he will find something to study that works for him. But if he wants a true liberal arts education, check out Washington and Lee, Vassar, Williamette, Sewanee etc

What degree is he interested in? I got a BS in Econ, which is in the College of LA. I enjoyed the degree path because I liked economics, but also had a lot of opportunities to take electives in things I was curious about or wanted to learn, unlike other degrees in the sciences or engineering.

One of those was an English class on Shakespeare. Still think the guy is overhyped by the tight leather crowd, but now my opinion is an educated one. I also took a couple of extra biology classes because I liked biology.

I work for a Fortune 50 company and do pretty good (not sales), and people I work along side with are from schools I've never heard of in states like Nebraska all the way up to Princeton, with every degree you can imagine.

I'm in the same boat. My son is looking at econ but wants to do a minor in something like archeology or history (where his real academic passion is).

The old College of Liberal Arts is now part of the College of Arts & Sciences. As noted earlier, political science and international affairs are in the Bush School. Depends on what your child wants to study. Lots of the departments are highly ranked, but the rankings are based mostly on research output rather than undergrad teaching.

I recommend looking at TexAgs to see what current students are saying about their courses and outside opportunities. Most seem pretty positive about their choices.
