First semester here at Texas A&M. I have all the pre-reqs done (classes) and will have the minimum graded hours, and GPA, requirement at the end of this semester. Heard Agribusiness is full (for incoming freshman?) What does this mean for potential on-campus transfers?

I would call their office and ask, that will be your best source of information.

If I had to guess they don't just have one big amount of prospective students that they can handle. They probably ration for so many new students, and set aside an amount for on campus transfers, and even off campus transfers. Again just give them a call and ask.

And if they are full, try getting into Ag Economics, the degree plan is basically the same except for something like 15 hours so if you can get into that, it would be easy to transfer down the road.

on campus tranfer? You mean change of major.

The change of major process is much different than a new student to the university. I wouldn't think you'd have an issue if you meet their change of major requirements.

Best thing to do is go talk to an advisor in the AGEC department. I know Agribusiness is gaining popularity and AGEC has an agreement with Mays to only allow 400 students in Agribusiness. They are almost at that number, thus it is becoming harder to get in. I'm told that the GPA requirement is changing to a 3.0, instead of 2.75.

I would't advise doing Ag economics with the intention of switching to Agribusiness. It works if you want to transfer from Agribusiness to Ag econ because Agribusiness is more competitive and has a limited number of spots.

AGEC major isn't bad if AGBU does not work out. I am in the department right now, graduating in May, and have had a really good experience. It all just depends on what you want to do. AGEC can allow you to dabble in different parts of economics so it really is subjective to what you're interested in and what you're career goals are. Good luck!
