A few weeks ago, I was accepted into a graduate school, unconditionally. I sent in my acceptance of their offer, intending to start taking classes there part time in the spring.

Last week they sent me an email informing me that my GPA wasn't high enough and I would have to get approval from the dean for admission.

Today, they informed me that I was not approved.

In summary, they let me in, then didn't. Is this acceptable or common place in the admissions process?

Thanks for any advice/comments.

It depends on the university. TAMU never provides any type of conditional admission, but I have heard that some schools do.

However, I have never heard of someone being offered conditional admission then having that offer rescinded (unless there was evidence of scholastic dishonesty).

Very odd.

Did you have to apply to the graduate school before the dept?

I think I submitted my app to the grad school through my dept at A&M.

For me, I'm pretty sure it helped...

Not sure what TAMU admission is talking about. Our department has conditional admit offers and uses them routinely.

What was yout GPA? Akso who sent the first admission letter? Admissions or the department?
