My uncle had recently asked for my opinion regarding this. My cousin has a friend who was offered Blinn team, but his parents had heard that it was near impossible to get into the business school or something due to the gpa requirements. Would anyone suggest going to A&M Galveston for a year and then transferring? I had a couple of buddies that did this and they said that it was easy academics wise and worth it, but at the same time they said Galveston was boring. Any opinions on this would be appreciated.

Should have searched first. Sorry, but any responses would still be appreciated.

Sorry I don't know much on the subject, but I will say that I would be surprised if TAMUG academics were easier than Blinn. I think that business is going to have the same high GPA requirements regardless of where you're coming in from.

Transferring into Mays from another college or university is extremely competitive. A typical profile of their admits is 3.5+ and all but one or two courses completed from their first two years of courses. There is a better chance by moving through TEAM or TAMUG. There are pros and cons to each. Send an email with your questions to gap@gest.tamu.edu and ask for it to be forwarded to Katie, Andy or Russ. For now indicate you want TEAM to admissions just to keep the option open. You won't have to decide for several more weeks.

The only students who think TAMUG is boring are the ones who haven't been there. Unless you're a total nerd and hate water, it's a fun place, great students, the Gulf at your doorstep and small classes to boot.

I think a 3.5 at Blinn is what you need to get into Mays. A 3.5 at Blinn is very doable.

Transferring into Mays from A&M requires a 3.25, so IMO 3.5 at Blinn is the easier and CHEAPER way to go.

by the way, I was General studies at A&M and transferred into Mays. If I could do it over, I would have done Blinn for two years first, but at that age I was scared that I might not get back into A&M, since I didnt know what college was really like yet. Now I know that Blinn would have been the easier choice.

are yall sure 3.5 at Blinn GUARANTEES you into Mays, or is that just near the average for who they admit? I thought they only took like 90 external transfers total.

There is no guarantee for Mays.

Transferring into Mays and changing majors from General Studies to Mays are two completely different process.

To get directly into Mays I recommend a minimum of a 3.5 to be considered. You want the highest grades possible with the proper courses completed.

I think either Blinn or TAMUG would be a good option. I have taken courses from Blinn and they are not your typical community college blow-off courses. The professors there do a good job of teaching you the material and expect you to perform well on the exams. I would have loved to attend TAMUG had they offered my major. I would have spent all of my "studying" time in my kayak fishing!

I took this route to get into A&M after I was waitlisted... I've never taken a class st Blinn but I can say that TAMUG is easier than TAMU... not in the sense that TAMUG is "inferior"... but there are 3 buildings where you have class (maybe 4 now) and you can walk across campus in 10 minutes so it is very very easy to get help I'd you need it.

Paths that should be very predictable for Mays:

Changing majors from GEST and TAMUG:
http://gest.tamu.edu/Main/business/buadsheet.pdf

The typical profile ( not a guarantee) to transfer from another university/college:

Applicants should have completed all but one or two of the courses listed in the first two years of the Mays curriculum. Comparable courses for Info210 and Mgmt211 are not available at many schools. It is best to have a 3.5+. They have a finite quota, so beyond that it depends on how many students on their list fit the typical profile. They only review transfer applications in April for admission to the fall. They don't take transfers for other semesters.

I transferred in back in '08, community college, had every class completed in Mays 1st 2yr curriculum except for INFO 210 and MGMT 211 (I did alot of research beforehand, let me tell you), had a 3.7, and was told I would be only one of 75 externals IF accepted. I was nervous and anxious because I didn't want to go anywhere else, and after having talked w/a Aggie recruiter at a college day who told me some 4.0's weren't even getting into Mays. Thought about changing majors, "whatif", etc. and then got the good news eventually.

Prepare and study your ass off, and look at it like there is no other option. Gig 'em.

I did TAMUG, it's great because you get the football tickets and are still an A&M student, you just "change your curriculum" to get into a College Station major--no transfer required just meet the minimum requirements, although different departments have different ones. TAMUG students are great, they have Thursday night Yell Practice the weeks of the game and it's a very friendly place. Plus it's right on the water, which is nice.

I was probably never meant to be a sciences major to begin with, but I had much more trouble academically at TAMUG than TAMU.
