Howdy everyone. My wife is taking the GRE today and is going to try to get into the M.Ed Bilingual Education online program. Does anyone know what kind of scores she should be looking for to get in?

The program notes that to be competitive applicants should score at least a thousand with a 400 on each (which is to say the requirements GRE wise are extremely low since 1046 is the recent mean across 10 years) Granted, those are the lower limits and not the avg, but still a useful starting point. Is she only applying to A&M or is she also applying to other programs? Different programs have different recomended scores? Is she planning on getting a Phd or phed? If so, the importance of the GRE escalates and the required score escalates too. For a phed they rec at least a 1200 with a 600 split and rec over a 1300 since the true mean typically is around 1350+ for those programs. At the med level GPA is going to help control poor standardized test scores. Since she has a good GPA and is above the critical value for GRE, from a score perspective she sounds competitive.

Thanks nnichols. Right now she is only applying to A&M. She has been following me around in the military for the last 5 years and has always regretted not getting her Bachelor's from A&M. I don't think she has any plans for going beyond a Master's.

Nichols means an Ed. D, which is an applied doctorate in education.

Okay, that's what I figured he must have meant.

If she has a 3.98 GPA all she has to do is take the thing. The GRE will not be the reason they would reject her.

My grades got me into grad school, the GRE was a requirement basically. I went in for civ/str eng.

Depends on the program. GPA is weighted more heavily in MS programs vs doctoral programs, but for most doctoral programs, the GPA score is a gate keeper and determines if the application is ever viewed.

That is far too strong a statement to account for the variation in admissions flags by degree, field, and school.

No it isn't. When you run a regression that analyzes graduate admissions dichotomously as program (ms vs Phd [d1,d2])and gpa and gre vs admission there is a significant interact between GPA, GRE, and program on admission. If we add separate variables like degree and school and partial their effect, the significant interaction remains and an analyzation of r2 change indicates that the residual variance of the added predictors does not account for the significant effect.

What is the spatial and temporal domain of the data set, as well as the significance level you are testing? Also, what are the SE and B coefficients of the independent variables?

id love to see that data and those statistics please. Can you point me to where you are pulling this from...
