Did any of you buy any of the FE exam review books? If so, which did you buy and did they help?

I wouldn't bother buying one. The exam is not bad if you use the Manual they give you. Most problems can be solved with simple plug and chug with the proper formulas.

you don't need anything.... i passed it with no prep, no calculator and beer on my mind, and i was an average student...

Go pick up a copy of the manual in Zachary and flip through it a couple times to see whats there. You'll be fine

Its a test that covers anything and everything that you possibly could have learned in an ABET accredited engineering curriculum, there is no prep available that is going to replace you having learned the stuff or not.

As I always say on these threads.

1. Learn the calculator, I prefer the TI-X series because they have a scrollable result window like my 89. Do some simple calculus, or problems that were in your fundamentals of your major with it to get some practice.

2. Flip through the manual that comes with the exam, you can find it on the test company's page or you can find it on that FE prep page I figure. Just get a feeling where info is in that manual and how you would use it. Knowing the manual will save you 15-20+ mins through the course of the test, because its a really long test.

Otherwise, dont sweat the test .. I think A&M has above a 90% pass rate, we do a good job at weeding out the weak and then the people who are sneaky enough to BS their way to a degree are also at least smart enough to know that they shouldnt take the exam and expose themselves.

Good luck and dont sweat the exam, there is no possible way to study for it, so just go in there with your approved calculator, snacks and yeah .. knock it out.

The pass rate is 90% and I'd be willing to bet that most of those fails are EE and CE that get tested over things they have never seen in the general section...

Well we USED to be better prepared when ELEN had to take thermo, Id say that there are quite a few fluid dynamics type questions on the test.

But to say that its just ELEN/CEEN is unlikely, Id put it more that there are a few kids who take it who shouldnt be graduating with an engineering degree in the first place and only got to their senior year by riding on the backs of others.

Hell I know a girl that I went through with, she was TALKING with her friend during a test .. yep .. they were sitting side by side working on a test together. I finally got fed up with it and was like shut the f up, we are taking a test. Then the Prof looked at ME like I was crazy. Tough standards at A&M sometimes. That girl now works for Boeing .. hope that makes you feel better when you fly.

No prep. Did it hung over/half ripped. Not a worry if you went to after all the suck you have already been through.

I flipped through the civil section, looked like most of the problems were gonna be way long. I did the General DS, it was much easier. Passed no problemo

I did the same thing, after the morning section and having seen what kind of "electrical engineering" questions were on the exam, I decided to do the general afternoon portion as well. I figured that I knew calculus and statics a whole lot better than I knew programming, logic, MS Excel formulas and computer engineering, which were all somehow lumped in the electrical engineering specific portion. Actual electrical engineering questions in the DS section, Id have rated as 30% maximum.

Of course most electrical engineering programs in Texas actually dont teach any electrical engineering, they are computer science, computer engineering or communications degrees that are somehow called electrical engineering. (UT Dallas offers like 80% communications courses)
