re students who are at TAMHSC considered real Aggies?
yes and no. this is a simple question without a simple answer.
*technically*, they are not Aggies. TAMHSC is a different university within the A&M system. it is similar to attending A&M-Commerce or A&M-Kingsville, in terms of your status within the system. they do not get A&M diplomas or Aggie rings. they get HSC diplomas and HSC rings (which are different depending on your program).
however, the College Station component of the HSC participates in Aggie student life. we are on the same campus, use the Rec center and parking facilities and libraries and bookstore. we get sports passes and are able to participate in A&M student organizations. in fact, the College of Nursing Class Council is an A&M student organization under the A&M Student Government umbrella. we will have a table at MSC Open House in the fall. we participated at Big Event this past spring. so, when you consider the "other education" that makes a person an Aggie, you might call HSC students Aggies. and for this reason, there is a movement to get Aggie rings for students who put in the hours at A&M proper, then moved over to HSC for the nursing school (the only undergraduate program at HSC) to finish their bachelor's. however, Dr. Dickey (the HSC president) says no even though the Association of Former Students is open to the idea.
does that make any sense?
